Trolex on winning streak as Air XS Silica cleans up with two more awards.

Trolex, the leading manufacturer of health and safety technology products for workers operating in hazardous environments has added two more prestigious industry awards to its collection. This totals five awards for Trolex in 2022 in recognition of the Air XS Silica Monitor – the world’s first real-time respirable crystalline silica (RCS) monitor.

The Air XS Silica Monitor was recently awarded Most Innovative Instrument, Product or Digital Solution at the Air Quality and Emissions Exhibition and The Best Health and Safety Innovation Product Award at the Building Innovation Awards.

Judges at the Air Quality and Emissions Exhibition commented: “Trolex’s silica dust monitor seems to be the only one of its kind able to monitor silica specifically in real time. Airborne silica dust is a major occupational hazard affecting millions of workers on a daily basis. Until recently it seems that samples had to be collected and sent to a lab for analysis which is time consuming and unable to mitigate the risk in real time. With the introduction of this instrumentation, action can be taken to tackle exposure to silica dust much more effectively.”

Silica is the biggest risk to construction workers after asbestos. The risk comes from the inhalation of silica dust particulates in the workplace and an estimated 600,000 workers are exposed to silica each year in the UK.

The Air XS Silica Monitor is set to revolutionise worker safety within the construction industry by delivering real-time detection of dangerous respirable crystalline silica (RCS) particulates in airborne dust mixtures - on the job.

Requiring no complicated set-up and only five minutes of maintenance a month, the Air XS Silica Monitor is easy-to-use and provides accurate monitoring with minimal training.

The Air XS Silica Monitor displays the presence of RCS mass by volume, while also being able to distinguish the presence of RSC within dust mixtures. In addition, the Air XS Silica Monitor can track changing concentrations of RCS content over time, letting workers know if the amount of RCS in their workspace is increasing as they work and when it has risen to dangerous levels.

On winning the recent awards, Trolex Managing Director Steve Holland said: “2022 has been an important year for Trolex bringing our ground-breaking Silica Monitor to market. A world first, in real-time respirable crystalline silica monitoring we are proud to have been recognised alongside our peers, including some of the most prestigious and well-respected companies within the health and safety industry across the UK.”

“Winning these awards is not just a win for our dedicated team at Trolex but for construction workers around the globe. It gives us a platform to raise awareness amongst employers about the extreme dangers of inhalation of silica dust particulates in airborne dust mixtures and the risk of silicosis - while highlighting there is a cost-effective solution to increase worker safety.”

“Our objective is to save lives within hazardous working environments and the AIR XS Silica Monitor is doing just that – with the potential to save millions of lives, globally.”
