Tomra Recycling to highlight latest advances in metals recovery at Cars 2021

Leading sensor-based sorting specialist, TOMRA Recycling, has confirmed its attendance at CARS 2021, which will take place from 29-30 September at the NAEC in Stoneleigh, Coventry.

Metals experts from TOMRA Recycling’s UK team will be on Stand D3 to highlight the latest developments and innovations in sensor-based sorting for metals recovery, and to discuss the ways in which sensor-based sorting solutions are helping metal reprocessors achieve unparalleled yields and purity of end fractions while simultaneously adhering to the latest waste legislation.

Segment Manager for Metal Recycling North/East Europe, Terence Keyworth, will be on hand throughout the two-day event to talk with customers about the predicted future growth in demand for recycled aluminium across the automotive sector in Europe. He will highlight to visitors why the latest sorting technologies for aluminium scrap are set to play a crucial role in achieving the increased aluminium recycling rates set out in the European Aluminium VISION 2050 report.

Visitors to Stand D3 will be able to learn about TOMRA’s X-TRACT technology. TOMRA X-TRACT enables sorting by recovering ready-to-melt aluminium fractions with a purity of 99%. XRT technology also enables substances to be separated according to their atomic density, regardless of their colour and surface impurities. TOMRA's X-TRACT X6 FINES identifies and classifies grain sizes that are almost half the size of those that could previously be processed (as low as 5mm).

In addition, the heavy metals separated using the X-TRACT X6 FINES can be further separated by colour, brightness and shape using TOMRA’s COMBISENSE system, ensuring high purity fractions from even the most difficult waste streams. COMBISENSE can sort high value non-ferrous metals by colour, such as zinc grey metals, copper and brass. It also uses multiparameter fraction separation techniques for creating fraction of PCBs, wires and coins.

Brian Gist, Head of TOMRA UK and Sales Manager Northern Europe Recycling at TOMRA Recycling, comments: “We are delighted to be taking part in this year’s CARS event. After such a long hiatus in face-to-face trade events, the show is an ideal platform for us to highlight our latest solutions which address the challenges of metals recovery from automotive waste.”
