Tamar Energy invest in a Terex Environmental Equipment shredder

Tamar Energy recently purchased a Terex Environmental Equipment (TEE) TDS 820, slow speed shredder, from UK distributor, Wolf Eco Machinery. Tamar Energy provides organic waste management solutions through its award-winning network of five Anaerobic Digestion, three In-Vessel Composting and three Open Windrow Composting sites around the UK. Tamar Energy’s composting division produces high quality, environmentally friendly compost and its AD division produces low carbon, baseload energy for thousands of homes and a nutrient-rich biofertiliser.

As part of their machinery replacement programme the company was looking for a machine to shred incoming green waste at its Open Windrow Composting site in Ongar, with the key requirements being ease of operation, production throughput and cost of operation. Brian Bell, Managing Director, at Wolf Eco Machinery commented “We were delighted to have the opportunity to demonstrate the TDS 820 for Tamar Energy and having discussed the requirements we were confident the machine would deliver the desired results”. Andy Sibley, Head of Tamar Energy’s composting division commented “We were impressed with the approach taken by Brain and the team at Wolf Eco Machinery, they listened to our requirements, worked in conjunction with  the Terex Environmental applications department and came fully prepared to carry out an impressive demonstration”.

The TDS 820 is an aggressive, slow speed shredder suitable for all types of applications. Customers quickly appreciate the benefits of the independent shaft drives and the easily customised control system, allowing the shaft directions and speeds to be configured to optimise production. Having the ability to run the shafts in reverse removes difficult wrapped material, helping to reduce downtime. The 2m long shafts have a fully welded, hard faced, tooth design which can withstand the rigors of shredding when the threat of contaminates are present. The advanced hydraulic control protects the slow speed machine against contaminates, which can cause significant damage if put into a high speed machine. Fitted below the shafts is a replaceable breaker bar, which controls the end product sizing, this machine has a short tooth breaker bar. Other breaker bar options are available allowing Tamar Energy to produce a finer or coarser product depending on the requirements.

Low fuel usage was an important requirement for Tamar Energy, which will be delivered by the efficiency of the machine’s Scania DC13 371kw (497HP) constant speed engine. The engine which operates at 1500rpm is located inside a maintenance-friendly power unit with all daily service components carefully positioned to be accessed from ground level.

During the design process the TEE engineers worked hard to maximise the clearance below the shredding chamber to allow for the free movement of difficult wet material after shredding. The benefit of the design was evident during the demonstration when extremely damp green waste was processed with ease. Andy Sibley commented “We process 25,000 tonnes of green waste at our Ongar site annually, the incoming material varies greatly depending on the source and the weather conditions. We were impressed with the TDS 820’s ability to process the difficult damp material. Having the option to change the shredder breaker bar gives us application flexibility”.

A successful demonstration was only part of the solution Tamar Energy was looking for when selecting a machine, the level of service provided after the sale was equally important. Having worked with Brian and the team before, Andy knew he would get excellent aftermarket support. A comprehensive service package has been agreed meaning the machines get maintained correctly, reducing unnecessary downtime and ultimately giving great operating returns.

The TDS 820 forms part of the TEE comprehensive range of High Speed Grinders, Biomass Chippers, Trommel Screens, Medium Speed Shredder, Recycling Screen, Windrow Turners and Material Handlers.
