New Terex Finlay 883+ Spaleck Increases Performance at Tudor Griffiths Group

A new Terex Finlay 883+ Spaleck is powering through material at Tudor Griffiths Group as the company reports a surge in recycling rates at its headquarters in Shropshire.

Tudor Griffiths Group has made the investment in the plant, supplied by Finlay Central, to ensure it continues to measure up to high environmental performance targets.

Almost 90 per cent of incoming waste to the company’s Wood Lane site is now recycled.

Tudor Griffiths Group was established in 1874 and has over 30 years’ experience in the waste and recycling business.

Located within 200 acres on the edge of Ellesmere, near to the Welsh border, Wood Lane has been an important quarry site since the beginning of the 20th century.

Today, as well as continuing to operate as a high-quality sand and gravel pit, it is the headquarters of Tudor Griffiths Group, who are leading suppliers of construction materials, building supplies, ready-mixed concrete, waste management and recycling.

Also located on the site is a material recycling facility, a landfill and a concrete mixing plant.

At Wood Lane, the inert material brought to the site is fed by excavators in to the Terex Finlay 883+ Spaleck.

The fines produced are used for landfill restoration, while the middle grade, at sizes 75mm to 20mm, go through a density separator and picking station to be sold as clean aggregates. The plus 70mm oversize is put through a crusher.

John Pugh, Waste Manager at Wood Lane, said: “The Terex Finlay 883+ Spaleck is producing saleable construction aggregates with a far cleaner mid-size product.

“We haven’t experienced any blockages meaning that downtime has been kept to a minimum and the system seems really professional.

“The main benefits are the steel feeder, which takes the brunt of the heavy material and the double deck Flip-Flow screenbox. In the past we’ve not found this easy to process, but the new plant is working very well.”

Tudor Griffiths Group worked with Neil Bailey, of Finlay Central, part of the Finlay Group, to introduce the plant to the site. He said: “The capabilities of the Terex Finlay 883+ Spaleck are incredible and it is enabling Tudor Griffiths Group to process a very difficult material.

“The German designed heavy-duty vibrating screen allows the plant to produce throughput that is almost completely blockage free, due to the 3D and Flip-Flow technology.

“The Flip-Flow screening system also allows finer material to be processed in more difficult weather conditions.”

Finlay Central has supplied 10 machines to Tudor Griffiths Group in a long-standing partnership that has been in place for more than 17 years.

Mr Pugh added: “This latest machine is perfect for what we wanted and helping us to achieve land-fill diversion.

“We’ve seen a great performance so far with increased throughput and the service and maintenance package we get from Finlay Central is great.”
