Meet Contrak’s new contortionist…

Contrak Construction of Newcastle under Lyme has taken delivery of its first ‘large’ Volvo excavator in the guise of a reduced swing ECR145E for its groundworking and general construction activities...

The ECR145E has been supplied complete with the two-piece boom option, dozer blade and a Steelwrist tiltrotator which ticks all the boxes for proprietor, Phil Cookson. “We needed a slightly larger, more productive machine in our fleet, yet the compactness offered by the reduced swing counterweight coupled with the two-piece boom and of course the Steelwrist tiltrotator, makes the ECR145E an ideal machine for working on confined house building sites,” comments Phil. “The flexibility this combination gives us is already ticking all the boxes in terms of stability and all round performance.”

From the ground up, the machine has been equipped with the optional heavy-duty dozer blade. At the business end of the machine, Phil has opted for the two-piece adjustable boom option and 2.5m dipper arm to facilitate the fitting of the Steelwrist tiltrotator. Besides the hammer shear hydraulics which come fitted as standard, the machine also sports an X3 rotation circuit. The 16.7 tonne ECR145E is equipped with a Stage-IV 4-litre Volvo engine producing 122 hp which operates in conjunction with an advanced-mode control system ensuring the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. Thanks to the two-piece adjustable boom, the machine has an optimized compact design yet offers a maximum reach of 8.6 metres, a digging depth of 5.6 metres as well as a generous lifting capacity of 1.7 tonnes across carriage in the worst position.
