Mach-Tech supply Wheeldon Brothers Ltd with a new Lindner Polaris shredder
With four transfer stations covering Greater Manchester, James Wheeldon, Director of Wheeldon Brothers Ltd likes to stay ahead of the game and succeeds in producing a clean top quality SRF product.
After visiting Mach-Techs Open day held in Cumbria last June and witnessing the throughput of the Lindner Polaris, single step SRF Shredder, Mr Wheeldon decided there and then that the Polaris was exactly the one- step shredder he needed to ensure his demands and needs were met. James said
“Having ran many shredders over the years, I have learnt what is good, average and bad and the Polaris in my opinion is definably the best, and leads today’s market. The Polaris meets the multitude of tasks and needs we have here at Wheeldons Waste”.
Having replaced his previous one step Untha shredder with the Lindner model, Mr Wheeldon explained the reasons for this action.
‘’The Untha has a 120mm screen and it produced a 90mm product at around 14 tonnes per hour when shredding a pre-processed, pre-shredded waste stream, so it did leave us with issues, such as contamination in some of the products we produced. We also felt as if we were pushing the machine to its maximum limits’.
In comparison, on the Lindner Polaris we use a 60mm screen producing a 50mm product with a higher tonnage throughput of 18 tonnes per hour. Plus, the Lindner Polaris is a more technologically advanced shredder which can stop without any damage to the machine whenever un-shreddable items are introduced, meaning we can breathe easier. The Polaris is also equipped with very easy foreign part removal.
The choice to replace the Untha XR with the Lindner Polaris is giving us a more defined granulate size and a much cleaner product, enabling us to produce and market a higher quality SRF at higher volumes”.
James added “The installation was relatively painless. All in all, we only lost two days of production and this included the removal of our old machine. I’m very happy with the end result and also with the service Mach-Tech provides. The back-up and maintenance service has been excellent”.
Wheeldons Waste is a large operation that deals with commercial, industrial, construction and some municipal waste. Wheeldons have 7 picking lines to sort out recyclables and anything that can’t be recycled is transferred to their facility in Ramsbottom, Bury where the Polaris is situated.
The out-put material from here goes into the production of SRF, an oversize SRF is also produced and marketed to cement kilns and sold to brokers for export.
