LaBounty Scrap Shear for J Davidson scrap metal processors

Established in 1970 by Jack Davidson, J Davidson Ltd are the leading processors of scrap cars and scrap metal in the Northwest. Today the business is run by the founder’s son Jamie, along with his two sons Luke and Lee. In 2012 the operation moved into brand new purpose built state of the art premises in Craven Road, Broadheath, a stone’s throw from their original home in Viaduct Road.

Operating one of the most advanced scrap metal processing centres, J Davidson also boasts a fleet of twenty collection and delivery vehicles, which include a range of Volvo trucks, all stunningly airbrushed around the theme of action movies, including Die Hard, Ironman, Terminator and James Bond, the latter receiving full approval from current Bond actor Daniel Craig. Anyone residing in or around the area will be familiar with seeing these beautifully painted trucks out and about on the Northwest’s roads.

Their treatment facility for end of life vehicles and ferrous and non-ferrous metals includes a 1000 tonne Lafort shear, the first of its type in the UK when purchased in 2013, two Fuchs material handlers and an extensive range of other plant and handling equipment.

Investing in the most up to date equipment enables J Davidson to operate a showcase scrap metal processing site. One of their most recent plant investments has been a Doosan DX420LC excavator which has been equipped with a LaBounty MSD2000R scrap shear supplied by Warrington based attachment specialist ECY Haulmark.

LaBounty MSD shears are engineered to maximise performance, longevity and safety with significantly reduced maintenance time. Benefits of the LaBounty shear include proven reversed cylinder technology; this protects the cylinder rod from being damaged. A speed valve which is fast acting and reduces cycle times by 30% and patented wraparound blades, the blades receive the large majority of the wear which reduces wear of the parent material and therefore much less welding and maintenance time is needed.

The Doosan DX420 excavator was delivered to ECY Haulmark’s premises allowing the LaBounty MSD shear to be fitted in their workshop by their factory trained engineers, this ensured the shear was installed, flowed and pressured correctly and fully tested before being delivered to J Davidson to commence work.

The LaBounty MSD2000R Scrap shear will predominately work at J Davidsons reducing oversized scrap metal structures, such vehicle chassis and larger steel structures which will not immediately fit into their Lafort shear. Having the LaBounty MSD mobile shear also means more scrap can be processed on the ground with less going into the static shear.

J Davidson Managing Director Jamie Davidson remarked that investing in the LaBounty MSD scrap shear has immediately made their operation more efficient. “We have eliminated the need for burning the oversized scrap using oxy acetylene gas torches, which is very expensive and can be dangerous for the operative and the environment”. Davidson added, “The LaBounty scrap shear is well recognised in the industry as being manufactured specifically for the purpose of continual, daily processing of tough abrasive metals. We know the shear will be fit for purpose for many years to come and trust in the service and back up supplied by ECY Haulmark”.
