JSJ Construction (Midlands) Limited invest in a new Volvo A25G

JSJ Construction of Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, has invested in a new Volvo A25G articulated hauler for its growing fleet of ground working equipment. Of which, there are now three twenty-five tonne Volvo trucks in their growing holding of plant...

Established just four years ago by Managing Director Steve Smith and brothers Joseph and John McGowan, JSJ Construction brings together thirty years of experience in the groundwork and construction sector. “The last four years have been very challenging, and it has been hard work to get JSJ Construction to the position it’s in today,” comments Steve Smith. “From cautious beginnings, we have built up a modest portfolio of clients, from which we enjoy regular work and our order book is looking very healthy for at least the next twelve months. We currently have thirty items of plant, with excavators ranging from compact machines up to thirty tonnes in operating weight, site dumpers, tele-handlers, along with two second hand A25G’s; which have been joined by our first new Volvo.”

The reliability of the existing trucks, the reputation that Volvo haulers have, coupled to healthy residual values, encouraged JSJ Construction to invest in a third, brand new truck. “Another good reason for deciding to buy the third truck was that, as our contracts have been getting larger, we found ourselves having to cross-hire in extra haulers to cope with the work. So, by investing in this capital purchase, we are now saving a considerable sum in hire costs,” continues Steve.

The A25G articulated hauler can carry 25 tonnes, with a heaped capacity of 15.3m³. It is powered by a Stage IV Volvo V-ACT six-cylinder engine, developing 318 nett hp. A maximum torque of 1,942Nm is achieved at just 1100 r/min, which means this is available at relatively low engine speeds. This results in good fuel efficiency, high performance, quicker engine response, reduced engine wear and a longer service life. Purpose built by Volvo, the engine is matched to the Volvo drive train, featuring an in-house designed and manufactured transmission, drop box and heavy-duty axles with outboard wet disc brakes. This ensures that the power and torque produced are put to best use, even in tough working conditions.  Dynamic and predictive gear selection adapts to operating conditions, for improved comfort and fuel efficiency.

JSJ Construction carries out the whole spectrum of ground working activity, including; utilities, services, road construction and site preparation for either commercial or domestic developments throughout the Midlands. The company employs forty full-time personnel, and has just completed building its own office and yard complex at Earl’s Barton, Northamptonshire.
