Harpscreen helps Aggregate Industries UK cut costs, save time and reduce carbon footprint
Harpscreen has helped Aggregate Industries UK streamline its delivery processes, cutting costs, saving time and reducing its carbon footprint. Aggregate Industries UK is one of the country's leading suppliers of construction material solutions for the building sector, running more than 60 quarrying operations backed by a national transport network. As a major producer of fine and coarse aggregates for the British construction industry, the business is constantly looking for innovative, greener ways of working in support of its goal of being a sustainable operator.
The brief
The business has grown exponentially in recent years, expanding its operations within the construction industry and beyond. It has always been committed to finding both the most sustainable and the most cost-effective way to operate, and with this in mind, the company undertook a major review of how its delivery processes were managed.
Working together
Following the review of its operations at Torr Works Quarry, Aggregate Industries turned to Harpscreen, already one of its major suppliers, to talk through ways of saving on spend, managing time more efficiently and reducing environmental impact. Harpscreen listened to what Aggregate Industries needed and worked alongside the team to shape a solution built around those goals.
A more efficient way of working
Working together led to a far more efficient way of operating overall. One clear example was in how deliveries were handled: previously, pallets could go out only part filled with wire woven decks, rubber decks or whatever else had been ordered. Harpscreen put a stop to that, combining orders together so pallets left full and in a single trip, rather than being split across several separate deliveries.
Tangible results
The new way of working has had a wide-ranging impact on Aggregate Industries UK, driving considerable savings in cost and time and helping to reduce the business's carbon footprint, in keeping with its environmental target of offering sustainable solutions wherever possible.
Harpscreen continues to supply Aggregate Industries UK with a range of screen media products and de-clogging rods through the bespoke system the two companies built together, and the business keeps reporting ongoing cost and time savings alongside a smaller carbon footprint.
Harry Hughes, Mechanical Maintenance Manager at Torr Works Quarry, Aggregate Industries UK, said: "We have been working with Harpscreen for some time now and have found them extremely helpful and accommodating, even coming out during a weekend shutdown to measure up, so that production was not affected, a real plus for a busy production plant. As a result of working with Harpscreen, we have managed to save our spend, allowing more budget for screen media.
"I feel that Harpscreen are extremely aware of all our needs and goals. It feels like anything is possible with them, and they very much take a customer-focused view in order to create a solution that is bespoke to us as the client."
