Bourne Skip Hire has significantly enhanced its waste processing performance, achieving up to a 40% increase in payload efficiency following the introduction of two Pronar twin-shaft shredders - the MRW 2.75G and MRW 2.85G.
Supplied and supported by Global Machinery Solutions, the machines have enabled higher material densities, fewer vehicle movements, reduced haulage costs, and the creation of new revenue streams from recycled aggregates.
The investment has also allowed the business to dedicate machines to specific waste streams, improving reliability, throughput and operational control.
Background
Founded in 2002, Bourne Skip Hire has grown into a well-established waste management business operating across Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire. With depots in Bourne and Peterborough, the company services a 30-mile radius, supporting both domestic and predominantly commercial clients. Today, the business employs around 60 people and processes a wide range of waste streams, including wood, general waste and inert materials.
A core part of their operation is diverting waste from landfill. Wood and general waste are processed and sent for further treatment - often contributing to energy generation - while inert waste such as soil is among the few materials sent to landfill.
The challenge
As volumes increased, Bourne Skip Hire required a step-change in processing efficiency. Their existing shredder could no longer deliver the throughput, flexibility or payload optimisation needed to support business growth.

What led them to Pronar
Bourne Skip Hire was introduced to Pronar equipment by Jason Purllant at Global Machinery Solutions, who arranged a demonstration of the Pronar MRW 2.75G.
The MRW 2.75G is a compact twin-shaft shredder powered by a Volvo Penta engine (210 kW), featuring a 2.5 m³ hopper and 1550 mm shafts. Its ability to process varied waste streams and quickly adapt via interchangeable shafts made it an immediate operational fit.
As demand grew, the company invested in the higher-capacity Pronar MRW 2.85G. This machine is powered by a CAT C9.3B engine (310 kW / 415 bhp), with 1700 mm shafts and a 3m³ hopper, delivering significantly increased throughput for high-volume wood and general waste processing.
How they’re working
Bourne Skip Hire now operates a two-machine system with clearly defined roles:
- Pronar MRW 2.85G – primary machine for wood and general waste shredding
- Pronar MRW 2.75G – adapted for concrete and brick crushing using specialist shafts
This structured approach allows the business to:
- Maximise throughput across multiple waste streams
- Reduce cross-contamination between materials

- Maintain consistent output quality across operations
The MRW 2.75G has been successfully repurposed for inert waste processing, producing certified 6F5 aggregate for resale into construction and agricultural markets.

- General waste loads increased by 7–8 tonnes per lorry

Fewer loads are required to move the same tonnage, reducing fuel consumption, driver hours and transport costs.

Concrete and brick are processed into certified 6F5 aggregate, creating a saleable product and reducing disposal costs.
