Ajax promotes understanding of solids handling

Solids handling specialist, Ajax Equipment, recently hosted the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ (IMechE) Process Industries Division North West Centre at its Bolton production facility for an evening promoting greater understanding of solids handling and the affect it has on production.

Ajax’s technical director, Eddie McGee, delivered a presentation on the fundamentals of handling and processing bulk solids, and how the challenges posed by materials handling can be addressed with careful and considered design. Following the lecture Eddie McGee and Ajax technical sales engineer, Simon Fields, gave attendees a tour of the factory providing insight into the production process, using projects in the manufacturing process to explain Ajax Equipment’s approach which ensures its solids handling and processing solutions are designed to suit to a wide variety of materials and applications.

Chair of the IMechE Process Industries Division North West Centre, Noel Hensman, commented “Visiting Ajax gave attendees a fascinating insight into various aspects of solid handling from hopper design to screw conveying systems. The excellent presentation also gave examples of how solids handling equipment can be utilised in various scenarios. This stimulating event was well attended and received very positive feedback.”

On working with materials Eddie McGee said “Solids handling is one of, if not the world’s, largest industrial activity, however, it is not always widely understood. Ajax is a key proponent of equipment design based on measured flow properties and working with customers to better understand their bulk solid’s behaviour to supply equipment that works with the material to provide process enhancing performance. By promoting the basics of solids handling, Ajax hopes to remove some of the mystery behind bulk handling and be a strong advocate for best practice.”
