The Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers

The Contractors Mechanical Plant Engineers, known as the CMPE, has always been concerned about the safe use of mechanical plant on construction sites. Recognising the need for competent plant operators they introduced the Plant Operators Certificate of Competence in 1983.

Through the experience of the members they have developed the Plant Operators Record of Competence and have become involved in providing Quality Safety Awareness Training and Site Assessment.

In 1996/97 the construction industry employed approximately 15% of the UK workforce and were responsible for 90% of the fatal accidents which occurred during that period. This places demands and responsibilities on those who work in the construction and contractors plant sectors to improve these statistics.

The knowledge and experience of our members is drawn upon to develop ways of improving safety in the construction industry. This enables the CMPE to offer a quality service to the Industries and all its Members.
