Trime UK opens their new 40,000sqft Cambridgeshire facility

April 28th 2025 is a massive milestone in the evolution of Trime UK. The company, already one of the leading manufacturers of sustainable lighting towers, power generation machinery and water treatment products, will be officially opening their purpose-built 40,000 sqft facility based in the Hinchingbrooke Business Park, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.

Hinchingbrooke Business Park has excellent transport links. It is conveniently situated near the A1(M) and A14 roads and Huntingdon has a railway station with direct trains to and from London and the North of England.

Cutting the ribbon is the former CEO of Trime, and rental industry stalwart, Ray Caulfield. Ray is a former European Rental Lifetime Achievement Award winner who decided to take retirement in 2023. Ray was delighted to make a return visit, following the invitation to be the master of ceremonies, by the directors of Trime UK.

This new facility boasts a 20-person training room, which is available for Trime customers to hold sessions, meetings, and conferences. There is a workshop and classroom training area, where Trime will continue to deliver its accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training courses.

As they planned this new unit, careful consideration of the local environment was studied in Trime UK’s designs.

Included in the outside floorplan are Bat boxes, Sparrow boxes, Bee bombs (to attract insects) and a staff rest area set aside an herb garden with an array of lavender plants. There is also a hibernation hotel mound in the far corner of the yard.

Trime UK has planted a range of Carbon Sinking Plants including alliums and an Acer tree. These plants absorb carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and store it in their biomass (branches, roots, leaves) and the soil, effectively reducing atmospheric CO2 levels.

There are 6 no. EV charging points and power to the building are delivered via 48 no. Strategically installed solar panels are estimated to annually harvest 17000 kWh of electricity. The company is committed to 100% recycling all waste including; packaging, redundant spare parts and waste oils etc.

Commenting on this new facility, Paul Hay Trime UK’s managing director said, “This building will enhance our customer support, with in-stock availability of lighting towers and generators alongside a large product demonstration area. The company has invested over £2.5m in this facility which helps to cement our position as the number one supplier of lighting towers and power generation products.”

The Trime UK story began in 2016, when lighting tower stalwarts, Ray Caulfield and Paul Hay began marketing a brand-new range of lighting towers designed principally for the UK and Ireland hire markets.  Currently, 75% of all their sales are to organisations in the UK, Ireland and European hire markets.

With a combined 50 years of experience in the lighting tower business, Paul and Ray immediately set about establishing the company as a leading supplier to the hire industry. Their flagship product the X-ECO LED lighting set was an instant success with hire firms who valued its energy-saving properties and advanced LED lamps.

In 2018, Trime UK introduced a range of standalone wash bays, dubbed the X-SPLASH, and in the following year a line of dust suppression units.  The X-SPLASH utilises recycled water and has saved millions of litres of water per year. The environmental qualities of the X-SPLASH won the top accolade in the 2019 Green Apple Awards for ‘Environmental Best Practice.

Over time, the Trime range of sustainable lighting towers has grown rapidly; customers can now choose, from hybrid models, solar-only sets and traditional engine-powered units.

In early 2024, Trime UK founded a range of power generators, ideally suited for the UK and Ireland hire markets. This new range, marketed under the ‘Trime Power’ brand, includes a line of diesel portable, ultra-silent, rental and industrial generators, each built to the same high standards of reliability and sturdy construct as their award-winning lighting towers. Trime has utilised the latest diesel engines from leading suppliers including, Kohler Stage 5, Yanmar, FPT Iveco and Perkins.

The diesel-powered line encompasses a power band between 6kVA to 670kVA, with a complete range of power yields to suit an exhaustive number of applications, in both single and three-phase outputs.

In addition to diesel generators, Trime has also developed a complete line of hybrid, solar hybrid and battery packs. These sets give a user the option to severely reduce carbon emissions and lower noise pollution. Each unit is fitted with an advanced lithium battery, with the solar hybrid sets featuring tilting monocrystalline solar panels.

By the end of 2024, Trime UK emerged as a company with a turnover of over £25m, with a team of twelve highly experienced people, led by managing director, Paul Hay. The team includes a technical director, and a sales director, alongside three sales managers and a recently appointed technical manager. Trime UK is supported by a marketing manager, an administrative assistant and a recently appointed sales support person. This Trime team is a motivated, innovative and supportive workforce unmatched in the industry.

Trime UK has recently launched a brand new state-of-the-art online spare parts ordering system for all owners of Trime lighting towers. A customer simply needs to locate the machine’s unique serial number, which is located at the bottom of the data plate, and enter it into the spare parts portal. Once the serial number has been entered it will publish the manual for the relevant lighting tower or wash bay and all the parts unique to that model, along with real-life images. The menu will contain live pricing, stock levels, and a quick ordering button.

The system allows the user to save regularly used parts, enabling them to easily make repeat orders. Naturally, Trime only supplies genuine OEM spare parts.

Trime UK is a recipient of a range of environmentally centred awards. These include a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) accolade and a trio of Green Apple awards. This year, Trime are a finalist in the Irish Construction Excellence Awards, the UK Hire Awards of Excellence, in the Product of the Year category and, in addition, the Supplier of the Year. Trime’s solar/hybrid generator has also been selected as a contender in the European Rental Awards.  Last year Trime was shortlisted in the National Sustainability Awards for their X-SOLAR, an emission-free and noise-free lighting tower.

Trime’s production facilities are based in Cassinetta di Lugagnano, near Milan, Italy, and Pavia, just south of Milan. Aside from its lighting tower range, the company also manufactures a wide range of water-recycling wash bays and dust suppression products.
