Recycling “Combi System” Makes a Real Difference!

Recycling “Combi System” Makes a Real Difference!
Central Demolition, based in Bonnybridge in Stirlingshire, has made a significant investment in a new recycling plant and reports excellent results in both volume reclamation of recyclables as well as end-product quality. Combining General Kinematics, Powerscreen and Kiverco equipment - all sourced from Blue Machinery Scotland - Central Demolition has added to its existing recycling plant and created a tandem configuration of specialist recycling machines to process large volumes of C&D waste for the production of a wide range of saleable reclaimed materials. Central Demolition is now confident that it is reclaiming between 90%-95% from the thousands of tonnes of raw waste material at its Bonnybridge recycling station, which are brought in from its own demolition and site clearance contracts as well as materials received from other sources throughout Scotland and North East England.

Central Demolition is a multi-disciplined organisation specialising in demolition and dismantling, licensed asbestos removal, earthmoving, site clearance, plant and tipper hire, landfill and recycling. The company is a Member of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) and complies with all the requisite industry standards and techniques. Formed in 1993, Central Demolition has evolved to become a national leading organisation in its specialist fields, with broad expertise in all its activities. The company has always placed great emphasis on investing in the best possible plant and equipment for its various operations and has enjoyed a long and beneficial working relationship with Blue Machinery Scotland when it comes to sourcing recycling plants. Managing Director Ross Craig says "We look on Blue Machinery Scotland as our one-stop-shop for all our recycling needs and their range of distributorships allows us to mix and match equipment to suit our processes. Blue Machinery is an expert in their field and we know we can rely on their skills right from the planning stage through to installation and commissioning. Additionally", he continues, "we find that their after sales product support through Spares UK is prompt and efficient, keeping any downtime to an absolute minimum".

Central Demolition has installed a number of additional recycling machines to further enhance both primary and secondary reclamation of recyclables from, predominantly, C& D waste. Truly eclectic, the new plant array consists of a Grizzly Separator from General Kinematics, a Conveyor and a 5-bay Picking Station system from Kiverco, all of which lead to a General Kinematics De-stoner and a Powerscreen 615 Trommel already owned by Central and which carry out the final secondary screening and stockpiling. The compatibility of all these differing marques has allowed Central Demolition to configure the installation so that the processing sequence is as effective and automated as possible, with a potential for further add-on equipment should the need arise.

Incoming raw waste is first pre-sorted by the GK Grizzly Separator which not only produces a bigger mid-size of 180mm-, but also carries out this primary process fully automatically. The resulting material is then conveyed to the under-cover picking station where operatives are able to carry out manual sorting to the designated bins in a safe and productive environment. From here, the final stages are through the GK De-stoner and Powerscreen Trommel 615, which are separating, screening and stockpiling as a secondary process. The De-stoner works in conjunction with the trommel to clean up the mid-size material after the inert fines have been removed at 10mm. The resulting clean 10mm-180mm is then combined with the clean hardcore from the primary recycling stage for crushing by a TEREX Pegson XR400 mobile crusher (also recently purchased from Blue Machinery Scotland) to produce top quality recycled aggregates.

From the large daily tonnages of commingled waste that come into their Bonnybridge recycling station, Central Demolition is able to reclaim an increased range of clean saleable materials, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, recycled aggregates in various specified sizings, composting, soil improvement and landfill cover materials, board, timber and paper. Volumes of non-recyclable materials are minimised by the processes, with all the environmental and cost-effective benefits that tip-to-landfill reduction engenders.
