The Casey Group is a multi-disciplined organisation with interests as diverse as building and refurbishment, land reclamation, civil engineering, waste management and plant hire. It is the plant hire division, P. Casey (Plant Hire) Limited, that has turned once again to Blue Machinery to provide a crushing plant to add to the fleet. The new crusher joins an impressive catalogue of equipment for hire which includes excavators, bulldozers, loading shovels, ADTs, compaction equipment, crushers and screeners - all of which can be hired as operated or non-operated machines. Short and long-term hire is available from Casey, all operators are certified to CITB and CPCS standards and the entire hire fleet is backed by a national team of fully trained mobile field service engineers. In addition to general plant hire activities for the construction, quarrying, demolition and recycling industries, P. Casey (Plant Hire) Limited has also been appointed as a preferred supplier of crushing and screening equipment hire to ALC for PFI contracts for the British Armed Forces.
The X400 primary crusher series was launched by TEREX Pegson in early spring last year and is already well established as a highly productive, economical and versatile range of mobile crushing plants, equally at home in the quarry or on recycling applications. This plant has been designed to provide unsurpassed reliability, is simple to operate and has excellent under engine access for easy maintenance with a hydraulically tilting product conveyor. The model purchased by P. Casey (Plant Hire) Limited is the XR400 which features hydraulic release and hydraulic overload protection.
The XR400 has a highly aggressive crushing action with hydraulic crusher setting adjustment. The high-swing jaw eases material entry into the crushing chamber and the hydraulic adjustment enables crusher setting changes to be made quickly and easily over a wide range. The adjustment is activated without the need to release the draw-back mechanism and this system is particularly suitable for applications where regular jaw setting adjustments are required.
Casey's XR400, with hydraulic release, has been specifically designed to alleviate problems associated with crusher overload which can be encountered when tramp metal enters the crushing process - particularly prevalent in the recycling of construction and demolition waste. The hydraulic release feature is fully adjustable, quick and easy to reset and makes blockage clearance a simple process. This saves time and money by allowing the crusher to continue processing with minimal disruption to the task while, at the same time, protecting the jaw mechanism from potential damage.
There are numerous innovative features on the X400 series to improve productivity and enhance maintenance procedures. For example, the feed hopper is constructed from 15mm heavy-duty Hardox for prolonged active life and is hydraulically folding with boltless fixing; there is a newly designed and improved crusher drive access system; an easy access power pack canopy; hydraulic and oil filter changes are only required at 2000 hours intervals; there is also excellent under crusher accessibility for the safe and easy removal of wire with a hydraulic titling conveyor system. The strong I-beam construction of the chassis is designed and built to withstand even the most arduous of conditions and the low ground pressure crawler track is site proven for the toughest of terrains.
Driven by a Caterpillar 172kW C9 engine, the XR400 is PLC controlled for optimum performance with finger-tip actuation and simple, automatic start sequence. The highly efficient HFO direct drive system engineered into the plant gives remarkably low fuel consumption figures - as little as 22 litres per hour, depending on the application. In these days of increasing fuel and hydraulic oil prices, annual savings of over £21,000 in running costs are easily achievable compared with similar sized competitors' products. A new style of vibrating grizzly feeder, with an extended twin cartridge grizzly section, actively discourages pegging and blinding. An improved impact area under the product conveyor, at the crushing discharge point, has been introduced and the hydraulically elevating and lowering product conveyor itself has an increased discharged height to 3.9m for even better stockpiling. For transport, the conveyor can quickly be lowered to reduce the overall height dimension of the plant.
P. Casey (Plant Hire) Limited reports that they are delighted with the new crusher, which is already out on long-term hire. Both Mr Fred Broadbent (Plant Director) & Mr Graham Gotheridge (General Manager), for the company, commented "We've had a long and fruitful relationship with Blue Machinery over the years and have consistently sourced our crushing and screening equipment from them. They are an extremely professional outfit and look after us very well, before, during and after the sales process and their product support is most satisfactory".
