J Mould (Reading) invest for the future

J Mould are a Reading based specialist demolition, decontamination and recycling contractor with more than 45 years’ experience of multi-disciplined project management and execution. Family-owned and managed, the company is known for its innovative approach to industry challenges.

Moulds boast an impressive collection of plant for demolition and haulage with over 80 pieces on the fleet, including twenty nine 360 machines and forty wagons.

Having recently appointed Duncan Rudall as their new head of health & safety and demolition manager, the Reading based Company decided the time was right to begin a programme of converting their newer 360 machines to the OilQuick automatic quick coupler system from Warrington based attachment specialist ECY Haulmark. Duncan who has many years’ experience in health & safety auditing within the demolition industry suggested it would be advantageous to the company to invest in the system, having seen first-hand a number of other high profile demolition contractors converting to OilQuick in recent years.

OilQuick permits hydraulic attachments and work tools to be changed over in less than twenty seconds without the operator having to leave the safety cab to perform traditional manual attachment changes. The benefits of which enhance operator safety, reduce environmental damage from oil spillage and burst hoses, reduce the cost of replacing hoses whilst eliminating machine downtime and ensuring the correct attachment is always on hand for the demolition project being carried out.

Choosing two of the fleets Hitachi 210’s and two Hitachi 350’s machines J Mould saw this as the ideal opportunity to make the investment in OilQuick automatic quick couplers after realising the system is now the way forward for many other leading demolition contractors within the industry.

With the Hitachi 210’s being installed with the OilQuick OQ70/55 spec automatic quick coupler and the Hitachi 350’s having the OQ80 spec Moulds are now in a great position to utilise attachments more productively on both their demolition sites and in their impressive recycling facility.

Working at Moulds recycling facility is the Hitachi Zaxis 210 complete with OQ70/55 and a range of attachments which include a VTN MT20 multi-processor fitted with steel jaws to process the oversized steel, with the addition of OilQuick the MT shear can easily be taken off and substituted for the Dynaset Hmag900 hydraulic magnet to load the sheared steel into the wagons and assist in generally keeping the site tidy of scrap metal.

While Moulds Hitachi Zaxis 350 complete with OilQuick OQ80 is currently working on site on a Slough retail estate demolishing a former martial arts studio, a building of brick and steel construction. The advantage of the OilQuick system on this site was the ability to remove sections of the ceiling with a selector grab, and then switch over attachment quickly to a steel shear to cut through the steel beams to expose further sections of ceiling and back onto the selector grab.

The operators at J Moulds utilising the system on these machines are said to be delighted with the investment which has been made in OilQuick.
