CX300C in dismantling the Sickinger Primary School in Mannheim

Construction work in our densely populated, historical city centres has al-ways been a particularly sensitive issue. This is especially true when it comes to demolition and dismantling work, which is inevitably associated with nuisance for residents caused by noise and dust. Against a backdrop of ever-stricter environmental regulations, requirements governing emission generation of machines used for this construction project have therefore continued to grow.

The specialist company InduRec based in Weinheim, Germany is therefore relying on a new low-emission Case crawler excavator, CX300C, for dismantling the Sickinger Primary School in Mannheim city centre. The 30-tonne excavator was fitted with a Lehnhoff quick coupler and 2.7 t concrete sheers for the demolition work in the densely populated T4/T5 quarters which have a square layout typical of Mannheim.

Representative of the new C series, the new CX300C meets all require-ments of the EU stage 3B standard and Tier IV Interim regulation. The highly efficient common rail turbo diesel boasts a CEGR system with triple exhaust gas recirculation and is equipped with a diesel particulate filter. Without the need for diesel additives, it therefore reaches the legally pre-scribed exhaust emission levels. An automatic self-cleaning function means continuous performance without loss of productivity, which is more than sufficient with 209 hp (154 kW) and 900 Nm of torque at just 1500 rpm.

In operation, the new C series model is extremely environmentally friendly and generates minimum noise despite offering on average up to 10% higher performance. Compared to the B series, there is significantly less noise from the engine and hydraulic operation. Even in the directly adjacent residential areas, the CX300C can hardly be noticed as it carries out its sorting work on the site's former playground, aside from the occasional murmur of the pumps a crackling of the hydraulic shears. Interior soundproofing has now brought noise levels down to 70 dBA, a level more familiar in the automotive industry. When asked about the quality of his new workplace interior, machine operator Hagen Kehrer's lips were sealed but his broad grin and thumbs up said it all.

Managing Director Thomas Lück was equally as positive when assessing their new addition to the portfolio. "With various challenging dismantling and demolition projects under its belt in the Rhine-Main area, InduRec has made an excellent name for itself and ranks as the one of the region's companies with the most experience in the field of selective dismantling, remediation, recycling and disposal. Our machine park currently has excavators of all sizes, from a compact machine with an operating weight of 4.5 t to a 65 t long front demolition excavator, as well as many bulldozers and wheel loaders.

When it came to getting a 30 t machine as a universal machine for demoli-tion work, we got the Groß-Gerau Case branch to demonstrate the CX300C to us. Aside from the good impression that the CX470B made on one our subcontractors, we ultimately bought the machine because it complies with Tier 4 requirements for use in the inner city. Naturally, its performance also had to be suitable for use with shears, grabbers and hydraulic hammers. With our contact person Alexander Wirthwein, we also have a very dedi-cated partner who takes care of every detail and immediately gives the nec-essary assurance that you're in good hands."

Markus Munique, deputy managing director and head of the company's technical management team underlined his partner's judgment: "With only 500 operating hours on the clock, the new machine obviously hasn't been used for very long, but we can already say for certain that all data on per-formance and consumption meet our expectations. The CX300C has been very reliable and economical so far. Since absolutely all of our machines are equipped with central lubrication systems, we generally do not have to dedicate a lot of resources to maintenance. That said, the Case machine does make a very solid impression from the workshop's perspective. Our experience with the service from the factory branch has been excellent throughout. They have also been prompt and reliable in responding to our requests, be it for an additional grabber here or another accessory there. As for the quality of service, the Case branches are now on par with, if not above the competition, and they are extremely fast and reliable when sending replacement parts."
