Pilot Crushtec has installed a Pilot Modular plant at Mothae mine, a joint venture between the Canadian Lucara Diamond Corporation and the Lesotho government.
According to regional sales manager Nicolan Govender, the sale provided the company with an opportunity to showcase the technical expertise it has gained in designing and building modular plants across Africa over the past two decades.
"The process took seven months to complete as the customer wanted to make sure that it was buying the best possible equipment to meet its needs. We made several trips to Lesotho to provide technical data, cost breakdowns and analysis as part of Mothae's detailed approach to plant procurement," says Govender.
The mine's fleet of Pilot Crushtec equipment now includes a Pilot Modular/TRIO MJ2436 jaw crusher, a Pilot Modular/TRIO MC90 cone crusher, a Pilot Modular MC1000 11 metre conveyor and a Pilot Modular MC800 16 metre conveyor.
The cone crusher has proved to be an invaluable addition to the plant, as it is being used as a secondary crusher in a recirculation system that has significantly increased output. The cone crusher processes oversize material down to a <20mm product, enabling the operation to better utilise its stockpiles. This has also exerted a positive effect on sales volumes.
When asked for comments on the growing relationship between Mothae Diamonds and Pilot Crushtec, plant supervisor Nelson Mofokeng is complimentary about the products as well as the pre-and after-sales service dispensed by the marketing and installation teams.
"There was a great deal of consultation before we purchased the plant as its design aspects are critical to our production process. The technical assistance we received was exceptionally good and the plant has definitely provided us with the solutions we were looking for."
Mofokeng reports that he was equally impressed by the installation and commissioning crews whose service, support, and effort he rates as '100%'. He adds that the SupportLink crew have been extremely helpful during breakdowns that were experienced after the sale.
