The new DX140W-3 wheeled excavator, which is Stage IIIB compliant, provides new levels of comfort, ease of handling, optimum balance and high mobility for multi-tasking as a tool carrier for attachments such as buckets, breakers, grabs and crushers. Designed and built for high productivity in digging, lifting, carrying and other wheeled excavator applications, the DX140W-3 is intended to exceed customer requirements for performance, controllability, fuel efficiency, reliability, durability and reduced overall operating costs. The DX140W-3 is designed to meet the needs of a wide variety of customers, including contracting, civil engineering, rental, utility, road maintenance, recycling, waste handling and building materials companies.
Highlights include:
•Outstanding operator comfort with unique jog/shuttle control
•Very high performance and fuel efficiency
•Outstanding lift capacity and digging forces
•Enhanced controllability and serviceability
•Maximum durability for extended service life
Increased operator comfort and convenience
The new ROPS and OPG certified cab offers more space for the operator, while a new cab suspension system helps to cut vibration by 20% and reduce the noise in the cab to as low as 70 dB(A). The machine features as standard a heated air suspension seat designed to reduce operator fatigue. The joysticks have new proportional thumb wheel switches and integrated buttons to provide precise, proportional control of attachments. Forward / Neutral / Reverse (FNR) buttons on the joysticks allow the operator to change direction without removing their hands from the joysticks.
A new 7-inch colour high quality visual control console offers an attractive display and excellent functionality. All functions can be controlled both from the instrument panel as well as via a new jog/shuttle control next to the joystick, a feature exclusive to Doosan excavators. As a standard feature, the operator has access to a new attachment select and setting function, with multiple recordable preset values.
The cab is pressurised to prevent particles from entering the cab. Lighting capability has been increased by 100% to facilitate working at night. A side camera is available as a safety option. An increased area of glass in the windows of the cab allows excellent all round visibility for the operator. Other features include a slimmer steering column, a fully automatic climate control system, a USB port to play music and videos and more storage compartments for paperwork and other items.
Higher power and fuel efficiency
The DX140W-3 is powered by the reliable Doosan DL06K 6-cylinder 'common rail' turbocharged diesel engine providing 101 kW (135 hp) of power at 2000 rpm. The DL06K engine meets Stage IIIB emission regulations through the use of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) after-treatment technologies.
A new ECO Gauge on the control panel monitors in real time the rate of fuel consumption and actual engine-percent load to help guide the operator to select the best operating mode for fuel economy. Two new modes (P+ mode: Power Plus and L: Lifting) improve controllability and efficiency. The new Lifting mode is intended to facilitate the handling of heavy objects and materials on construction sites, a feature especially useful when working in narrow and confined spaces on utility and road projects.
Factory tests show a 5 to 10% reduction in fuel consumption, depending on the mode selected and the work being done. Auto Idle and an electronic clutch to reduce unnecessary fan operation also contribute to fuel efficiency.
Higher workload output
Compared to the previous model, workload per hour output has increased by an average of 5% across the different power modes, whilst lifting capacities are up by 15%. New hydraulic pumps and valves increase hydraulic flow by 4%. Increased hydraulic pressure boosts front and power functions, increases lifting capabilities, lowers cycle times and boosts breakout forces. The swing torque has been increased by 4%, with both the bucket and arm digging forces rising by 7%.
Overall, the new generation hydraulic systems improve the productivity of the machine through highly responsive, predictable controls.
Lower total cost of ownership
The frame, boom and arm of the new DX140W-3 excavator have been reinforced for increased durability. As a result, the service life of the machine has been extended significantly, strengthening Doosan's reputation for reliability and durability.
The engine bonnet is in four parts to improve serviceability and ease of opening. Filters, valves and batteries are all within easy reach for service work. Cooling capacity has been increased by 10 to 15% compared to the previous generation machine.
As well as offering more standard features than other excavators of its type on the market, there is a greatly expanded choice of options, including a floating boom system for easy levelling and finishing work. Available as an option for heavy duty applications is a dual pump providing extra flow for high flow attachments. Other options available for the DX140W-3 include a monobloc or articulated front working equipment, dozer blades, outriggers, cradle support and all necessary auxiliary hydraulic lines.
