Newmarket Plant a winner with Thwaites dumpers

Independently owned plant and tool hire company Newmarket Plant Hire has recently added a sizeable order of Thwaites dumpers to its rental fleet including the all-new Thwaites 2 Tonne Hi Swivels launched at the EHN Hire Show in February.

The 42 dumper order from Thwaites' dealer Shellplant is for a wide mix of models including the 9 Tonne standard front tip, 6 and 3 Tonne Powerswivel, 3 Tonne and 2 Tonne standard front tip and one tonne Hi-Tip dumpers. Also included in the order are five, all-new Thwaites 2 Tonne Hi Swivels.

This latest batch of dumpers increases Newmarket Plant's dumper rental fleet to almost 150 machines – the vast majority being Thwaites. Its recent £1 million investment with Shellplant included other equipment including Kubota mini excavators and Ingersoll Rand portable compressors and follows a major £1.4 million investment in equipment last year.

Newmarket Plant Hire is celebrating 25 years this year having been established in 1987. Over the years it has catered for the needs of a wide variety of customers from national contractors, local builders and DIY enthusiasts and this is reflected in the spread of equipment which includes everything from access platforms and backhoe loaders up to 13 tonne excavators and everything in between.

"We have invested a large amount in equipment over the past year strengthening our product portfolio throughout our six depots which serve East Anglia and the Midlands down and across the whole of the south east of England," said owner Carl Jarvis. "All of our rental equipment is from leading manufacturers allowing us to supply our customers with high quality, reliable equipment at competitive rates."
As well as expanding organically, Newmarket Plant Hire has acquired several other companies over the years including Harlow-based Sarbir Plant Hire in 2000 and P&R Tool Hire in Luton in 2002. To improve coverage in East Anglia, a new depot was added in Ipswich in 2006. The company is currently looking to expand in the Norwich area.

Since being appointed Thwaites dealer last August, Shellplant has achieved phenomenal success. The company is celebrating its 40th year in construction plant sales this year and is very pleased to have added Thwaites to its equipment portfolio offering particularly as it is the market leading brand in the site dumper sector.

"There has been strong demand for the Thwaites machines and we have taken several large multi-machine orders over the last few months," said partner Julian Payne. "We are particularly pleased at selling our first Thwaites 2 Tonne Hi Swivels – the newly introduced dumper looks like it will be a big success."

The new Thwaites 2 Tonne Hi Swivel is the only dumper that can lift its two tonne load, swivel it through 180 degrees and dump it at a height of 1.710 metres. It has compact dimensions – just 1.7 metres wide when swivelled and 1.47 metres wide when the skip is retracted. It features a three-cylinder, water-cooled direct-injection diesel Yanmar 3TNV88 which produces 24.8 kW (33hp) and uses Thwaites' Kinglink technology for superior stability and traction. The Hi Swivel dumper has precise skip controls allowing it to easily load over the side of common builders' skips.

Shellplant covers the local counties as far as North London and Norfolk although for Thwaites it covers Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
