Deere Introduces Three New Customer-Inspired G-Series Excavators

Responding to customer demand for enhanced productivity and a more comfortable cab, John Deere Construction & Forestry has expanded its new Interim Tier 4-certified (IT4) G-Series hydraulic excavator line with three new models.
Weighing in at 47 metric tons, the 470G LC is a 367-hp unit perfect for large commercial excavating projects and roadbuilding. The 67-metric-ton 463-hp 670G LC and the 87-metric-ton 532-hp 870G LC are tailor-made for mass excavating or truck-loading applications.
Each of the three new G-Series excavators also features rugged, field-proven IT4/EU Stage IIIB diesel engines, enabling operators to work anywhere jobs are available, including non-attainment areas.
Responding to Customer Needs
"In addition to the need to work everywhere, customers also told us that they needed greater production capabilities from their excavators and more room in the cab for more comfort," said Mark Wall, Deere's excavator product marketing manager.
Three New G-Series Excavators
"In response to our customers, we've delivered more hydraulic flow for faster work cycles and greater productivity, and a comfortable and spacious cab with a larger entryway and more legroom. We know a comfortable operator is a more productive operator," Wall said. "But we didn't stop there. We also enhanced the LCD monitor in the cab to simplify navigation. Now the operator can easily access a wealth of machine information and functionality with a 'tap and turn.'"
By using the LCD monitor's rotary control, operators have quick access to operating information such as engine rpm and oil temperature, and they can easily check maintenance intervals, adjust cab temperature, tune the radio and select work modes.
Customers have a choice of three work/power modes to select the digging style that best fits the job. "High-productivity" delivers more power and faster hydraulic response to move more material; "Power" allows a balance of power and speed for normal excavation; and "Economy" mode limits top speed and helps save fuel during light digging work.
"This smart technology, combined with more hydraulic flow, means customers can be more productive and efficient, moving more material per gallon of fuel," Wall said. "There's also a 'power boost' button on the right-hand control to provide extra muscle to drive the bucket through tough digging conditions."
Powerful IT4 Engine, Precise Control
Deere's IT4 engine technology is simple, fuel efficient, fully integrated and fully supported by the nationwide Deere dealer network. It uses field-proven cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) for reducing NOx emissions, and a diesel particulate filter and a diesel oxidation catalyst to reduce particulate matter.

Periodic active and passive filter cleaning automatically cleans the filter without the operator having to stop the machine and impact productivity.
Deere's exclusive Powerwise™ III engine management system perfectly balances engine performance and hydraulic flow for predictable operation. Short-throw low-effort controls give operators precise metering, extra finesse and smooth multifunction operation.
The hydraulically driven, highly efficient fan at the heart of the excavators' cooling system also runs only as needed, reducing noise, fuel consumption and operating costs. A standard, operator-activated reversing option back-blows cooler cores to keep them clean and free of debris.
All three excavators are equipped with the JDLink™ Ultimate telematics machine monitoring system, giving operators 24/7 online access to the machine. "Customers can track machine health, utilization and fuel consumption," Wall explained. "This valuable information helps operators better understand costs and jobsite performance."
JDLink's geofence and curfew alerts can also help owners protect their equipment from unauthorized movement or theft.
The 470G LC, 670G LC and 870G LC are available with a variety of track widths, arm lengths, buckets and other options.
