Angle Park Sand and Gravel Company Limited has upheld a long standing association operating Volvo branded products with the purchase of the latest G series L120 for its extraction operations at Melville Gates Pit, Fife.
Celebrating its 50th year in business last year, Angle Park Sand and Gravel can truly be classed as a fan of Volvo Construction Equipment products, purchasing 846 loading shovels back at the beginning of the 1970's. Since then, the family run business – now in its third generation has continued to favour Volvo loading shovels including the 4400 and every model of L120 to the newly acquired L120G. "We've always appreciated the product quality with the Volvo shovels but more importantly the service support we enjoy from the Volvo team at Stirling," says Managing Director Ian Cuthbert. And Ian's son Peter concurs with this sentiment adding; "This latest machine replaces an L120E which has reached 14500 hours with all its original components in-tact and still running on the original set of tyres! Fuel consumption has always been a plus point as well as ultimately, the machines' residual values."
The new L120G has been placed in the caring hands of operator Ron Taylor who has been employed at Angle Park since 1988 achieving those high hours on the same set of tyres on his E series machine. It joins a fleet of nine loading shovels (eight of which are Volvos) together with a Volvo EC240C excavator. The machine has been equipped with boom suspension for its primary duty of load and carry, feeding a primary hopper at the Melville Pit site besides loading stock out onto road going wagons.
The new Volvo L120G features an 8 litre Stage IIIB compliant 272hp engine, optishift transmission and axles all designed and manufactured by Volvo and features a full turn tipping load of 11.4 tonnes and a 20% increase in lifting force and 10% increase in breakout force over its predecessor. This coupled to the engine output with high torque at low engine rpm has resulted in faster cycle times and increased productivity. Two stronger, variable displacement load-bearing axial piston pumps and hoses have been introduced to handle the increased pressures. These provide superior control of the load and attachments, as well as high breakout force, faster lifting and tilt functions. A new hydraulic cooling system has been designed to reduce the working temperatures by up to 20oC over the F series model.
Angle Park Sand & Gravel Company Ltd is a family run concern supplying quality sand and aggregates to the construction industry at large throughout Fife. The company operates at three closely located sites around Ladybank together with a bagging plant.
Volvo Construction Equipment Division markets wheeled loaders, articulated haulers, hydraulic excavators, graders, Volvo utility equipment and Volvo road equipment products in the U.K. There are eight strategically placed customer support centres and a network of utility equipment dealers to ensure high quality customer support is maintained throughout the country.
