Another New Generation Mining Excavator from Liebherr

Another New Generation Mining Excavator from Liebherr

Following hard on the heels of the recently launched R 9250 Litronic comes the new R 9350 Litronic which, as a 350 tonnes class machine, supercedes the successful R 994B. This new generation excavator is available in either backhoe or face shovel configuration and, equipped with an 18m³ bucket, is capable of filling a 100 tonnes dumptruck in around three passes. With power to spare, an enlarged operator’s cab and heavy-duty undercarriage, the new R 9350 Litronic is destined to successfully follow in its illustrious predecessor’s footsteps.

The R 9350 Litronic is powered by a QSK45 Cummins V12, turbocharged, aftercooled diesel engine, which develops 1120kW (1500HP) at 1800RPM with a direct injection system and two separate water cooling circuits. Engine idling is sensor controlled and there is also engine speed sensing throughout the entire RPM range, providing integration of the engine with the other machine systems.

The three-piece undercarriage features two axial piston pumps per side frame and Liebherr planetary reduction travel gear; travel speed is up to 3kph. The D12 tracks have maintenance-free forged double grouser 850mm pads and automatic track tensioning. The undercarriage and side frames are removable for transport.

The spacious operator’s cab is identical to the well-proven R 996 Litronic as far as size, specification and ergonomic design are concerned. It is fully air-conditioned and the driver is protected against sunlight and noise by blinds, tinted windows and high quality sound insulation. The driver's seat can be adjusted to ca-ter for the individual size and weight of the operator. The gener-ously dimensioned glazing provides an excellent view of the work area and, because of its comfort and ergonomic layout, the cab provides ideal conditions for minimising operator fatigue and promoting optimum working efficiency throughout the shift.

The electro-hydraulic twin multi-directional joystick controls are responsive and precise, making the machine easy and safe to op-erate. The driver can obtain up-to-the-minute operational data via the Litronic system and its ergonomically designed monitoring display.

For regular maintenance, servicing and refuelling, the R 9350 is equipped with an hydraulically actuated service door, which gives excellent access at ground level for oil changes, replenishment of the automatic central lubrication system reservoir and allows fast and convenient refilling of the 5350 litres (1414 gallons) fuel tank.

As would be expected of a powerful production machine of this size from Liebherr, the digging envelope produces some impressive figures. On backhoe, the maximum reach at ground level is 16.30 metres, maximum teeth height is 15.40 metres with a dump height of 10.20 metres. Optimum digging depth is 9.50 metres. Digging and breakout forces are 880kN and 1020kN respectively. On face shovel, maximum reach at ground level is 13.75 metres, maximum dump height is 11.20 metres and crowd length is 5.20 metres. Maximum crowd force is 1300kN and, at ground level, 1040kN. Breakout force is 1060kN.

With the launch of the R 9350 Litronic, Liebherr is continuing with its new model designation for the mining and quarrying excavator programme. The initial "9" remains the product identifier number for hydraulic excavators but this is now followed by a three-digit number representing the operating weight category for the par-ticular model.
