New DoosanConnect Fleet Management System

To meet increasing demand for fleet monitoring, machine-to-machine communication, machine intelligence and remote equipment monitoring, Doosan has developed the DoosanConnect state-of-the-art, wireless fleet and asset management system for the company’s excavator, wheel loader and articulated dump truck ranges.

The DoosanConnect system offers a web-based fleet management solution which is very useful for monitoring the performance and security of machines and promoting preventative maintenance. It is available as a standard feature on all new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant excavators (from 14 tonne), all new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant wheel loaders and the new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant ADTs.

The new service allows owners and dealers to remotely monitor and communicate with Doosan machines via the DoosanConnect telematics website. Also available for retro-fitting in a kit form, the DoosanConnect system is supplied with a free 3-year subscription and customers are provided with their own account so that they can manage the machines in their fleet using the system. Once the 3-year complimentary period expires, customers have the option to purchase a service extension.

Specifically Designed for the Doosan Range
The DoosanConnect system is a tool designed specifically for the Doosan range, providing comprehensive information about machine performance in a dual mode (satellite, Mobile network). As such, it is the only tool of its type capable of providing this level of information, delivering insightful and cost-saving data about equipment to help customers work more effectively.

The DoosanConnect system comprises several elements including:

  • A GPS unit to monitor the machine’s location and allow a ‘geo-fence’ to be established to increase machine security.
  • A Q-Pro wireless data modem with wireless service to send data collected from controllers in the machine to the DoosanConnect telematics website.
  • A satellite antenna and service to provide a communication link when the Doosan machine is working in remote locations, where cellular service is not available.
  • The DoosanConnect website which offers Doosan customers access to many useful reports and important machine data.

The DoosanConnect telematics system allows fleet managers to compile a number of reports, including fleet status; machine details; machine location; operating hours; fuel usage; engine idle time vs work time; machine error codes; engine warning system; maintenance history and utilisation reports.

According to Doosan, the DoosanConnect telematics system provides significant benefits for customers through the use of operational data that help improve efficiency, such as altering machine idle times based on fuel usage, machine security and safety.

The system can support multiple Doosan machines in different locations, helping customers to monitor machine utilisation rates to assess that the right mix of machines is being used; it can also guide drivers to help them to operate equipment with higher efficiency and to locate replacement machines in the event of maintenance work or breakdowns, all under the umbrella of vigorous anti-theft and theft recovery protection systems. Customers can monitor the physical location of their Doosan machines, ensuring they are where they are supposed to be, which helps prevent equipment theft.

Operational data also gives owners insight into monitoring the machine’s fuel efficiency and the selected power mode in different applications. This is helpful to determine if an operator can make adjustments in order to do the same work with less diesel fuel. Doosan machines provide operators with various power modes to help them best match the power needed to specific applications.

The system also allows access to the machine’s maintenance history and aids in scheduling routine services, whilst eliminating the need to physically check fuel levels on the machine, as the information can be viewed remotely.

If a problem does arise, the DoosanConnect system alerts owners to help reduce machine downtime. The website reports fault and warning codes, and owners or their dealers are better prepared to fix the problem when they respond because they will have more data about what is wrong with the machine. Doosan dealers can view the problem on the DoosanConnect website to help diagnose an issue, without physically being in the same location as the machine.

With all of the information available from the DoosanConnect system, business owners can make better estimates when completing job bids and planning for jobs. Accurate machine usage reports, such as the number of hours a machine was used for a particular job, help owners respond to new business opportunities.

In the future, Doosan will continue to add additional functionality to the DoosanConnect offering. To make the additional functionality available, software updates will be sent over the air to the terminal on the machine, thus saving owners substantial time that would have resulted from having to take their machines to their local dealer to receive these updates.
