Producing quality material - Less is more for Peter Bennie

Peter Bennie are an independent quarrying and minerals producer operating throughout Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and further afield supplying essential construction products including aggregates and stone sales to the construction industry.

Bennie’s process limestone, sandstone and ironstone suitable for the built environment including, groundworks and highways construction. They are also involved in the recycling of construction waste and operate a number of waste recycling centres throughout the region including Boughton and Kettering. All waste is processed using the WRAP protocol for quality and consistency.

As a company they have always remained at the forefront of ever changing technology and legislation. One of their most recent machine acquisitions was a Rubble Master RM90Go compact tracked impact crusher purchased from UK dealer ECY Haulmark to add to their already impressive arsenal of large jaw crushers.

Robert Jackson - Director of Peter Bennie, explained he had always been sceptical of smaller impact crushers believing they could not output and produce as efficiently as a large jaw crusher could when it came to producing large volumes of aggregates. The Rubble Master RM90Go was brought in to replace their old 44 Tonne Pegson XA400 jaw crusher. Although it’s immediately apparent the RM impact crusher is already excelling its predecessor by producing a higher quantity and better quality of single sized material increasing the value of the finished product at around only 24 tonnes in weight. The RM90Go has clearly already made its mark in the Bennie operation, collectively earning itself the nickname of “Barney”.

Following an on-site demonstration of a Rubble Master RM70Go, Mr Jackson was so suitably impressed with the quality of material produced by the Rubble Master, but quickly realised an RM70Go was not going to be big enough to produce the quantity they wanted per hour and so opted for the larger RM90Go model.

The Rubble Master RM90Go is designed to offer maximum flexibility, weighing in at 23’600kg with an ability to produce up to 200 tonnes of high end quality material per hour, dependant on material. The RM90Go is easily transportable on a standard low loader and without the need for a movement order. It also boasts a John Deere engine with a stage iii constant speed. The RM90Go also rates highly on fuel economy.

Bennie’s took delivery of their RM90Go just after quarrying show Hillhead 2016 had taken place, where they kindly offered the machine for demonstrating purposes at the ECY Haulmark stand.
Where the RM90Go is clearly paying dividends for the Bennie operation Mr Jackson continued is the quality of the recycled material and cost of resale for products such as clean and 6F5 can command.

The current hire contract for “Barney” is a construction site in Kettering where a large number of new homes are to be built by major contractor MV Kelly Limited; the RM90Go is recycling onsite construction arising’s which include clean concrete and stone producing a 6F5 80mm to dust. Mr Jackson informed that the RM90Go had in the previous weeks been on a contract recycling 5’000 tons of asphalt, again producing a high value, high end product for reuse.

With only one machine operator loading the RM90Go and one shovel loader collecting the crushed material man costs can be kept to minimum with a Rubble Master on site. On this particular construction site the RM90Go was measured to be producing 193 tonnes per hour working for approx. 8.5 hours per day.

Mr Jackson concluded by saying “I have been so impressed with the quantity and quality of the single sized material the Rubble Master machines produce, the addition of an RM machine has added extra value to our crushing fleet. I have to admit to being initially sceptical but the Rubble Master has convinced me to move away from the belief large jaw crushers are the answer to turning over high volumes of aggregates”.
