Six new Volvos for Caldwell Construction

Caldwell Construction Ltd of Stoke on Trent has taken delivery of six more Volvo EC140D crawler excavators as it continues to expand its groundworks and civil engineering business within the house building sector.

The new Volvo EC140D’s were selected following a competitive tender process but in particular thanks to the reliability and performance of the four previous machines purchased back in 2013. “Basically we have trust in the Volvo brand in terms of performance and reliability,” comments Caldwell Construction’s Plant Manager Chris Hopwood. “The Volvo EC140D is a well-built machine in our opinion and our two year old machines have lived up to our expectations. In addition, we’ve been more than pleased with the support we receive from Volvo’s support centre at Warrington.”

The Volvo EC140D is powered by a Volvo four cylinder D4H engine developing 114hp which contributes to an excellent performance being well matched to the machine’s hydraulics. The machine’s ‘Integrated work mode control’ provides high efficiency, rapid dig cycles and low fuel consumption. This advanced mode control system ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work

cycles. Hose rupture valves are fitted as standard to the boom and dipper cylinders as are quick fit hydraulics and a hammer/shear service. The latest arrivals at Caldwell Construction Ltd have been supplied with optional hand rails mounted on the superstructure, vandal guards, hydraulic quick hitch and a full set of buckets.

The Volvo Care Cab offers a large roomy interior with plenty of leg room and foot space. The excellent all round visibility is enhanced by pressurized and filtered cab air supplied by a 14 vent, climate control system. An adjustable easy to read LCD colour monitor provides real time information of the machine functions, important diagnostic information and a wide variety of work tool settings. The monitor also doubles as a monitor for the rear view camera.

The additional six, fourteen tonne machines are all incremental to the Caldwell Construction fleet of equipment which includes Volvo compact excavators – in all totalling 24 Volvo branded machines. The recent additions have been fully deployed working on a growing portfolio of prestigious multi-million pound housing construction projects for major house building contractors in the Greater Manchester and Merseyside conurbations. The machines join a mixed fleet of over one hundred items of equipment which is specifically used on all of Caldwell Construction’s projects in the north, the north west of England, and the Midlands.
