Safety company secures top prize at national award ceremony

Blackburn-based vehicle safety specialist, Vision Techniques, has won a prestigious national award for its new VT Overview™ system.

Some of the UK's most creative and forward-thinking councils, public sector organisations and businesses gathered at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel for the ceremony of the highly acclaimed CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence, held on 9th November.

The best were awarded prizes in recognition of their efforts to reduce environmental impact using more sustainable waste and resource management.

Vision Techniques won the highly acclaimed Vehicle, Plant and Equipment of the Year Award for its new VT Overview™ system, a revolutionary safety product, unique to the marketplace.

With a 360-degree real time view of the vehicle or machine and its surroundings, the hi-tech piece of kit helps eliminate blind spots, delivers driver warnings and is effective both during the daytime and at night.

Incorporating the latest video software, it provides a total view around the vehicle from a single monitor image.

VT Overview™ also detects obstacles such as cyclists and pedestrians when the vehicle is turning left, triggering an audible warning to alert the driver.

The judges said: "Drivers and equipment operators have significant demands on their attention, particularly when manoeuvring into tight spaces.

"This system delivers a significant aid which should enhance safety and operational efficiency."
Steve Lee, Chief Executive of CIWM, said: "Health and safety is paramount in both the waste and recycling sector and in every industry, and it is an issue that CIWM takes very seriously.

"It is important to recognise the role of innovative products such as Vision Techniques' VT Overview™ system that helps to keep everyone safe."

He added: "This year's winners reflect the real environmental and economic benefits - both to business and society - of waste prevention, recycling and resource efficiency."
