Mecalac choose VT Sensorvision for hazard detection

Construction equipment giant Mecalac is offering award-winning, ‘collision preventing’ hazard detection for customers purchasing site dumpers, using a safety system developed by vehicle safety experts Vision Techniques.

Mecalac is a progressive manufacturer known for innovation, efficiency and creativity and believe the Vision Techniques’ radar incorporates ‘game changing’ vehicle safety for it’s dumper portfolio.

The SensorVision:Drive system is a forward-facing obstacle detection radar specifically developed for dumpers. Drivers that have a view obscured by a heaped load are warned of approaching hazards with a ‘three-tier detection zone’ audible and visual warning. The system is unique in the construction industry as its uses FMCW microwave detection - a flawless, accurate method of recognising an object in front of the vehicle.

Providing customers with hazard detection capability solves a problem faced by dumper operators across the country - having no way of seeing beyond their heaped load.

By using a radar that detects with perfect accuracy there’s little risk of colliding with objects, vehicles or workers on site.

With a reinforced stainless steel body the radar is incredibly tough, it can be re- programmed to detect objects in different zones, depending on the vehicle shape and detection areas; making it perfect for vehicle swapping or retrofitting.

The technology comes part of Mecalac’s wider strategic commitment that leads the way with on-site safety, delivering next-generation solutions for the future of construction.

Sales & Marketing Director Paul Macpherson at Mecalac Construction commented “As a market leader in the design, development and manufacture of site dumpers, we can’t wait to showcase our vision for the future and demonstrate that we really are ‘better together’.”

The SensorVision radar was displayed and demonstrated on Mecalac’s stand during this year’s Plantworx event with the first system being sold with hazard detection. The technology also featured as part of a BBC radio feature about the growth of Mecalac across the industry and how technology is improving on-site safety for its customers.
