Biggleswade (Great Britain), April 2017 – Existing Liebherr customer Billy Miller Contractor and Plant Hire in Elgin has returned to Liebherr for the purchase of four new high specification R 922 crawler excavators. Features of the new machines include auxiliary hammer and rotation pipework, additional LED lighting package and vandal protection guards. One of the four machines also benefits from the fitting of a Liebherr tilting bucket.

Elgin-based contractor and plant hire company Billy Miller has returned to Liebherr for the latest additions to its excavator fleet.

As well as being active in a wide variety of disciplines including landscaping, house building and civil engineering, family-owned Billy Miller Contractor and Plant Hire also offers a haulage service for external customers. Although the company is based in the far north-east, it operates across the whole of Scotland and utilises a wide variety of modern plant and equipment.
To service a large increase in its workload, the company looked to the market for a modern and fuel efficient 22 tonne excavator. After a series of demonstrations covering all the major manufacturers, Billy Miller felt Liebherr’s French-made R 922 crawler excavator was the ideal machine for its operations and placed an order for four units.

The short demonstration convinced the management team at Billy Miller that the overall package supplied by Liebherr was the best choice thanks to the combination of Liebherr’s traditional high build quality and performance, class-leading fuel consumption figures and first-rate cab.

All four machines in the deal are similarly equipped with 5.4 m booms, 2.7 m sticks and Hill Tefra double locking quick couplers. In addition to this specification, one of the four machines will also be fitted with a Liebherr tilting bucket. The high specification on these machines means that they have been supplied with full auxiliary hammer and rotation pipework, full length track guides, additional LED lighting package, side camera and vandal protection guards.

The R 922s benefit from a 150 HP Liebherr diesel engine that delivers peak power at just 1800 RPM and meets the latest European emissions with no requirement for a DPF filter or SCR technology. The Liebherr cab, which has been praised for its layout, comfort and all-round visibility, adds to the benefits of this excavator.

Billy and Richard Miller from Billy Miller Contractor and Plant Hire commented, “We have enjoyed a long-term relationship with Liebherr and after a machine demonstration knew we had made the right choice. The service back-up from Liebherr is first class and our operators rate the cab and performance of the excavators. Fuel economy is a major issue and the Liebherrs more than meet our requirements for fuel consumption.”
