Furlong Mills continues its long association with Kramer loaders

The principal supplier of clay slips to the Stoke-on-Trent pottery industry has taken delivery of a compact Kramer 5065T telescopic wheeled loader as part of an exercise to streamline production.

Furlong Mills of Stoke traces its history back to 1842 and currently produces 250 tonne of finished product every day which helps secure over 3000 jobs across the Potteries.

The company has recently installed a set of four new mixing tanks which, once on stream, will eliminate the time and cost of one manufacturing process and a new Kramer telescopic boom model has been chosen to handle the different types of ball and china clays as it has the reach to charge the new tanks.

In fact, Furlong Mills has been using Kramer loaders in its factory for some 25 years and has yet to find a reason to change. Commenting on this latest acquisition, production director Mark Nutting said: "We use the Kramer loader 24 hours/day over four consecutive days every week
and so reliability is critical to ensure that production is maintained at full capacity."

Thanks to Kramer's extensive range of machines, Furlong Mills says it was able to select a model perfectly matched to the job which, on this occasion, has been obtained on a 5 year contract hire basis.

Kramer's 5065T model is powered by a Yanmar diesel engine developing 35 kW and offers a maximum load-over height of 3.5 m. Like all Kramer machines, the machine is equipped with both 4-wheel drive and 4-wheel steer systems which combine to ensure excellent traction and manoeuvrability. In addition, a comfortable cab provides the operator with superb all-round visibility for maximum on-site safety.
