Major Wire’s Flex-Mat® 3 Screens C&D Recycling Material Faster
Flex-Mat® 3 High-Performance Screen Media from Montreal-based Major Wire Industries Limited helps recycle operations increase production speed, shorten project times and minimize downtime. Available for tensioned or modular screen decks, Flex-Mat 3 panels have more open area, providing up to 30 percent more screen capacity than traditional woven wire and up to 50 percent more screen capacity than polyurethane and rubber panels. It employs independently vibrating wires that increase product throughput by up to 40 percent over traditional woven wire or polyurethane and rubber panels by increasing open area and eliminating blinding, pegging and clogging. Now in its third generation since its introduction in 1996, Flex-Mat 3 is operating in more than 20,000 aggregate, mining and C&D recycling applications worldwide.
With Flex-Mat 3, producers screen material faster and spend less time cleaning or replacing screen media, providing a greater return on investment without the need to make major screen box changes. For recycled asphalt pavement (RAP), stainless steel Flex-Mat 3 eliminates blinding, particularly in warm weather when recycled asphalt material can turn hot and sticky. It can be used on top, middle and bottom screen decks. For recycled concrete and demolition debris, Flex-Mat 3 is typically used on middle and bottom decks. When the problem is dust from fines, it eliminates blinding that occurs with dry and dusty material. For production of larger recycled concrete material, 1-inch (25.40-mm) to 1.25-inch (31.75-mm), Flex-Mat 3 is ideally suited because it eliminates pegging.
For tensioned screen decks, Flex-Mat 3 Tensioned’s signature lime-green polyurethane strips align to the screen box’s crown bars and hold individual wires in place as they run from hook to hook. Wear life exceeds that of woven wire up to three times because there are no cross wires with high wear spots like there are with woven wire. On modular screen decks, Flex-Mat 3 Modular 1-foot x 1-foot (305-mm x 305-mm) and 1-foot x 2-foot (305-mm x 610-mm) panels install easily, using the same frames and installation types as traditional polyurethane and rubber panels. It can replace existing polyurethane and rubber panels on each deck wherever throughput is compromised, such as the feed and discharge ends when throughput is critical, or the entire deck for maximum production. On both screen types, Flex-Mat 3’s wires vibrate independently to better separate material, virtually eliminating blinding, pegging or clogging. This minimizes downtime spent cleaning or replacing screen cloth, increasing production time.
Flex-Mat 3 Tensioned is available in the industry’s broadest range of opening sizes—30 mesh to 4 inches (102 mm)—and with the widest range of application-specific wire diameters, enabling Major Wire to fine tune each screen’s production to its greatest potential. Flex-Mat 3 is available in the following configurations: a diamond-shaped Series D for most standard applications; wave-patterned Series S for removal of fines; triangular Series T for heavy scalping or fine screening; Series L for applications that require harp or piano wire; and Double-Wire™ for high-impact applications.
