East Midlands Demolition Buys Crushers and Screeners from Blue Machinery

When Peter Siddall sold his well-established demolition and surfacing group ten years ago and tried to settle down to retirement, it wasn't long before he started up again and formed East Midlands Demolition. "I simply got bored and decided to start all over again!" he says. Now established for six years, East Midlands Demolition is growing exponentially with a number of prestigious demolition contracts successfully completed, a healthy forward order book and, during the past few months, a considerable investment in modern production equipment - including two TEREX Pegson crushing plants and two Powerscreen screeners - all of which have been sourced through appointed distributors Blue Machinery Central and delivered during the last few weeks.

East Midlands Demolition is an independent demolition and recycling specialist, headquartered in Little Eaton near Derby with an additional interest in a limestone quarry at Cromford, Derbyshire where the company is in a joint venture blasting and processing limestone. The company has a fleet of around 20 excavators, demolition machines and loading shovels, plus a veritable armoury of excavator attachments from pulverisers and shears to grabs and grapples - a new 6.50 tonnes operating weight 360º rotating pulveriser joined the fleet in January. The crushing and screening plants recently acquired from Blue Machinery Central include two TEREX Pegson crushers - a 1412 Trakpactor impact crusher and an XR400 jaw crusher - the former primarily for the quarrying operations and the latter specifically for C&D waste recycling, where the hydraulic release feature is particularly important. The screening plants are both crawler-mounted Powerscreen models - a Warrior 1400 and a Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck, both of which are capable of screening virgin aggregates as well as C&D waste materials.

EMD employs 40 personnel and recently appointed Craig Jackson as Operations Director. The core business is demolition and recycling, with brownfield development very much a speciality of the company's numerous regeneration contracts throughout the East Midlands. Additionally, Peter Siddall is finding that there is a growing element of reinstatement work coming in alongside the demolition and site clearance contracts. "We're currently on a long-term contract, demolishing what was formerly Clipstone Colliery where coal had been extracted for many decades. EMD has demolished the old buildings and recycled the resulting C&D waste. Now we are working on reinstating the ground, grading, earthmoving and reworking the contours". He continues, "Our new Pegson 1412 impactor was a vital part of the recycling task but it has finished at Clipstone. We've moved it to our quarrying operations, where it is hard at work on high volume limestone crushing, in tandem with a Powerscreen Warrior 1400 and our new Chieftain 2100 triple-deck, producing five specified end products between them from 10mm upwards. This is the first time we've sourced equipment from Blue Machinery" he concludes" and we've found them very professional, technically sound and we are extremely happy with their level of service and expertise".

EMD generates around 200,000 tonnes of C&D waste annually from their various contracts and sees a considerable increase in clean quality recycled materials coming off their crushing and screening plants. Good quality recycled aggregates, scrap metals, timber for pulping, fines and topsoil are being efficiently and economically produced for sale and, according to Peter Siddall, their tip-to-landfill volumes have been significantly reduced, with  environmental benefits and reduced transport costs a most gratifying bonus.

The TEREX Pegson 1412 Trakpactor track mounted primary impactor is simple to operate, easy to maintain and uncomplicated in design. Versatile enough to be equally at home in quarries or on recycling duties as EMD has found, the 1412 Trakpactor is highly fuel efficient. Equipped with a Hazemag AP-PH 1214/Q impactor with four reversible and replaceable fixed blowbars, it provides impressive reduction ratios, producing up to 85% passing -32mm in excess of 300tph on primary limestone applications in one pass. EMD has also been producing good quality Type 1 through this crusher from C&D waste and this has been much in demand.

The XR400, from TEREX Pegson, is a highly productive, economical and versatile mobile crushing plant designed for both quarrying and recycling applications with an output potential of up to 350 tonnes per hour. The XR400 has a highly aggressive crushing action and the high-swing jaw facilitates easy material entry into the crushing chamber. The hydraulic release has been specifically designed to alleviate problems associated with crusher overload, which can be encountered when tramp metal enters the crushing process, and the crusher will self-protect and open in the event of an overload being encountered - particularly prevalent in the recycling of construction and demolition waste. The hydraulic release feature is fully adjustable and will automatically return the jaws to their pre-set closed side setting, making blockage clearance a simple process . 

The Powerscreen Warrior 1400 is capable of screening, three-way splitting and stockpiling a wide variety of materials in the most difficult and demanding applications, including face blasted material and crushed stone, construction and demolition debris, muck-away, coal, compost and topsoil. Additionally, the highly aggressive, heavy-duty, two-bearing screenbox and a large hopper exit opening allows easy handling and processing of overlarge items, such as tree stumps, logs and boulders. The Warrior 1400 boasts a fast set-up time of under 15 minutes and the rugged low ground pressure tracks on this mobile screening plant give excellent mobility and site agility in spite of its size and optimum output potential of 400 tonnes per hour.

The Powerscreen Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck mobile screening plant is capable of an output of up to 500 tonnes per hour (depending on mesh sizes and material types) and features a 20X5 top and middle deck and a 16X5 bottom deck 3-deck screen unit for optimum efficiency in screening quarried materials. The design and construction provides maximum access for easy maintenance and serviceability, whilst operational efficiency and mobility make the Chieftain 2100 Triple Deck a truly versatile screening unit for large-scale applications. Designed and built for high volume processing of aggregates, coal, crushed stone and demolition debris, it can produce up to six end products.
