Handling company puts ATEX safety first (and second)

Delivered by Sira Test & Certification, the three-day course equipped managers and technical staff who work onsite with the knowledge necessary to ensure the safety of themselves and others in accordance with the UK Health & Safety Executive's Dangerous Substances and Explosives Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).
The training complements Robson's compliance with the ATEX 95 regulations concerning equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
The company has many years' experience of handling products where this could be a hazard - notably sugar, biomass and coal - and products for these environments incorporate ATEX-certified components.
Where appropriate, handling systems are monitored constantly and alarms or shutdown initiated automatically if the risk of an explosion is detected. Other safeguards include blast panels and high-speed suppression systems.
