TEREX Finlay

Omagh firm plants £2m into growth.

Omagh-based company Terex Finlay has just completed a £2.1m investment in plant processes and facilities to help in its continued growth.

Part of this investment has seen over £1.2m being spent on a new paint shop. The new facility comprises two larger units, each of which has 500m of floor space, and a smaller unit which has 350m of floor space.

The company says that this enables one complete unit to be sprayed at a time, making the process more energy-efficient than traditional painting systems.

The installation of a state-of-the-art air recycling and recovery system will also be beneficial to the environment as it will reduce the lost heat being blown into the environment.

The company is espousing the concept of Lean Manufacturing, which means using less of everything compared to mass production methods.

Martin Dummigan, operations director, said: "Terex Finlay is a rapidly growing firm and we are a subsidiary of the global Terex Corporation, with sales approaching $$8bn. We are committed to being the best in our industry.

"New product introductions are key to maintaining our lead and we are always striving for manufacturing efficiencies. We have adopted the concept of Lean Manufacturing and are using these world-class tools to maintain our advantages over our competitors. We are a busy and dynamic company always seeking new ways to improve our business in order to delight our customers."

In addition to the new paint facility, the company has also invested in two new manufacturing sites which will provide an additional 35,000sq ft of floor space, a new 15,000sq ft spares facility and a new office building to accommodate 40 staff.

This continued growth and investment has seen a substantial increase in the number of employees. In a two-year period (2005-2007) there has been a 44% increase in the number of people employed with Terex Finlay.

Paul O'Donnell, general manager, said: " Terex Finlay's key to success has been continued investment in our company. Our aim is to instil a culture of lifelong learning and continuous improvement, therefore encouraging our employees to be the best they can be and to provide them with the most up-to-date equipment and processes to do their job. We are reaping the rewards from this investment as we become a world-class leader in the mobile crushing and screening industry."

Terex Finlay employs over 400 people at its 400,000ft manufacturing plant on the Drumquin Road, Omagh
