The New Liebherr A 944 C HD Litronic Ma-terials Handler

Liebherr has now introduced the A 944C HD Litronic, a revised model from its extensive range of special-purpose industrial     excavators for materials handling. This wheeled excavator, with an operating weight of up to 58 tonnes, is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled Liebherr diesel engine that complies with Tier 3 / Stage 3A emission limits and develops 190 kW at the low engine speed of 1,800 rpm. Liebherr-Great Britain reports that it has already sold two of these new generation materials handlers in England and Ireland.

The A 944 C HD Litronic has a heavy-duty undercarriage of    generous dimensions, with 70 tonnes class excavator axles. The broad support base with four-point pads makes it extremely   stable in operation. As a result, the A 944 C HD Litronic has    outstanding load capacities up to a working radius of 20 metres. The maximum reach height of the standard version is 20 m; the High-Rise version can reach 22 m. Stability is further increased by the large solid rubber tyres that have a diameter of 1,500mm and are 520 mm wide.

7.3m or 8.8m long sticks are available for the A 944C HD Litronic's straight or angled monobloc boom. An alternative is the 10.5 m long straight industrial monobloc boom in combination with an 8.8 m or 9.5 m long stick. Depending on the intended applications, clamshell or orange-peel grabs, timber tongs, hooks or electromagnets are available as attachments.

The A 944 C HD Litronic's specification includes "Vario Lift Plus" - a new development. This system enables the geometry of the working equipment to be matched to operating requirements. With the aid of pre-drilled holes in both the boom and slewing platform, the lifting rams and monobloc industrial boom can be repositioned in order to achieve optimal load capacities within the appropriate working range.

Semi-automatic central lubrication is a standard feature of the A 944C HD; it ensures reliable lubrication and, as an optional extra, can be upgraded without difficulty to a fully-automatic system.

For a particularly high degree of versatility, this new materials handling machine can be equipped with Liebherr's own patented Likufix SW 77 quick-change system. This enables all attachments to be changed from the driver's cab within a matter of seconds.

A new feature is the spacious operator's cab, which provides    distinctly greater freedom of movement. Hydraulic cab elevation is available as an optional extra. With it, the driver can always obtain an optimal view of the work area when loading and unloading material. The ergonomically designed seat in the cab can be moved to a wide range of positions and adjusted to match the driver's weight.  Automatic air-conditioning is standard. For additional driver protection, substantial grilles can be specified as an optional extra for installing on the top and front of the cab.

Specially designed for dockside materials handling, the High-Rise version of the A 944 C HD Litronic has a 2m section inserted between the undercarriage and superstructure in order to increase working height, which is increased to 22 metres at a maximum working radius of 21 metres.

In addition to the A 944 C HD Litronic, Liebherr's programme of industrial machines for material handling comprises 24 other wheeled and crawler models in size categories from 15 to 200 tonnes. An extensive range of widely differing types of equipment ensures that every potential task is mastered reliably and at maximum efficiency.
