LH 37 is an alloy which has been formulated by a development project that Liebherr undertook jointly with a leading German steelmaker. Extensive experimental work and a series of arduous tests have yielded distinctly improved material properties that satisfy the specific requirements of truckmixer drums. Although the steel previously used was already of very high quality, with a working life superior to regular steel, the new LH 37 grade has been proven to increase mixer drum working life.
Liebherr has switched the production of all its drum types to the new steel grade and will, in future, only supply drums made from LH 37. When the new, highly wear-resistant LH 37 steel is used, it imposes particular demands on the production processes. Thanks to extensive modernisation of the production facilities in Bad Schussenried (Germany), Liebherr is in a position to process this demanding material to a consistently high quality standard.
