Finedoor supply new aggregate screen for CEMEX - Cowieslinn Quarry.
Finedoor have recently completed a project to supply a new aggregate screen for Cowieslinn Quarry.

The CEMEX Quarry at Eddleston, near Peebles, Scotland has been operational since 1985 and has substantial gritstone deposits processing approximately 400,000 tonnes per annum. Cowieslinn currently operates a fixed plant featuring a 50" x 42" Primary, two cone crushers, one VSI, and five screens; with processed material being supplied to local markets.

Recently Cowieslinn quarry supplied aggregates for the new CEMEX UK concrete block and paving facility at West Calder near Livingston, Lothian, which will be one of the biggest factories in Scotland. The £5 million plant represents a significant investment in the region, and will have a production capacity of 1.2 million square metres, producing enough blocks and pavers to fill 20 Olympic-sized swimming pools per annum.

The contract required for the installation of a new aggregate screen to accommodate changes in the production line. The new screen which is fed from an existing feed conveyor replaces a by-pass chute which formerly replaced an existing screen.

Finedoor supplied a 4.3m x 1.5m - 2 deck aggregate screen with grease lubrication complete with feed and discharge trays. An SCS polyurethane self supporting modular system with full side protection and centre, bars, wedge and pin fixing system was also supplied.

The screen was designed and manufactured within Finedoor's workshop where the actual operation of the unit was fully tested and ‘dry run' before transportation to site where it was installed by the quarry engineers.

Finedoor has over 40 years of previous experience in providing bespoke solutions for the quarry and recycling industries in the fields of design, manufacture, installation, operation and repair of quarry equipment and plant.

Paul Nairn, Quarry Manager, commented, "It has been a pleasure to deal with Finedoor, they have supplied us with a bespoke quality product within a very tight timescale."
