32 Year’s Allegiance to Liebherr!

32 Year’s Allegiance to Liebherr!
Alan Watson started out 32 years ago as a Liebherr excavator operator for a plant hire company in Cumbria. When the owner decided to retire fifteen years ago, Alan bought the Liebherr R 912 he'd been driving and started out on his own, offering plant hire and groundworks contracting as an owner/operator. Since then Alan has consistently replaced his machine every few years with a new Liebherr excavator and, continuing this long-standing loyalty to the marque, has just taken delivery of another machine, a new generation R 914C Litronic. "I'm really pleased with my new Liebherr. It's reliable, fast and responsive" says Alan. "Over the years, I've always looked after my Liebherr machines and their after sales back-up is excellent. I can't afford downtime as an owner operator and my customers expect a tidy trouble-free machine that will do the job. The Liebherr excavators I have always operated give me peace of mind as I know that they will perform whatever the task - and what's more," he continues, "when it comes to changing my machine, I always get a really good price for the old one!"

Alan Watson Excavations Limited is based in Maryport, Cumbria and Alan and his Liebherr machine are constantly busy throughout the north west of England. Applications for Alan are varied and demanding, including bulk muckshifting, groundworks, grading, demolition, materials handling and, predominantly, plant hire. To enable him to undertake such a variety of tasks, Alan Watson has taken his new Liebherr R 914C Litronic with a number of extra features. These include an additional hydraulic circuit for a hammer, hydraulic swivel for grab work or tilting grading bucket and a quick-hitch hydraulic coupler for changing buckets. For lifting duties, the R 914C is equipped with check valves, safe load indicator, a load diagram system and the hoist cylinder is fitted with hose burst safety valves. Also, and because Alan often finds himself working in remote areas, the excavator has a refuelling pump and, for safety when parked up overnight, has also been provided with a set of vandal guards.

The R 914C Litronic is a 25 tonnes operating weight machine with a standard 1.40m³ bucket capacity. This particular model has been supplied with a 5.70m gooseneck boom and a 3m stick. Power is provided by a reduced emissions Tier III, Liebherr made D 934 S turbo-charged and after-cooled diesel engine which develops 115kW at 1800RPM. Automatic central lubrication is included.

The operator's cab is comfortable and functional with full instrumentation and Litronic engine and hydraulics management. Air-conditioning is standard and the driver's seat is air-suspended with headrest, heating and automatic lap safety belt. Additional headlights and a flashing beacon have also been supplied and fitted.
