New Generation LTM 1130-5.1 Mobile Crane Goes to Marsh Plant

Crane hire company Marsh Plant has taken delivery of one of the UK's first new generation Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1, which forms part of a major investment in new Liebherr cranes for this well-established crane hirer. This is a continuation of a long association between the two companies. Marsh Plant Holdings' Chairman Geoffrey Marsh was a guest at Liebherr's mobile crane factory at Ehingen in Germany for the official launch of this new generation model back in June last year. "I was so impressed with the crane" said Mr Marsh "and it suited our plans so well for increasing the lifting capabilities at the top end of our fleet that I placed an order there and then!" The LTM 1130-5.1, rated at 130 tonnes maximum lifting capacity, is now the largest in the Marsh Plant fleet and forms part of a significant order for Liebherr cranes, which also includes a third 100 tonne capacity LTM 1100-5.2 due for future delivery.

Marsh Plant is one of the larger independent crane hire companies in the UK, with an eclectic fleet of 72 mobile cranes offering regional volume crane hire from 20 to 130 tonnes lifting capacity. The company has its headquarters in Havant, Hampshire, with main and satellite depots throughout the south of England, home counties and up as far as the Midlands. Marsh Plant has always favoured the Liebherr marque for the bigger cranes in the fleet, with their compact dimensions, excellent lifting duties and outstanding reliability serving the company well over the years. "We've gone for Liebherr mobiles exclusively for our heavy lifters" said Mr Marsh "and the longer main boom, hydraulic offset fly-jib and self-carrying counterweight system on our new five-axle 130 tonner is ideal for the kind of mainstream lifting tasks in which we specialise".

The Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1 features a 60 metres, six section, oviform telescoping main boom with duties from 130 tonnes at 3m radius to 1.9 tonnes at 56m radius and with an under-hook height maximum of just under 60 metres. Marsh Plant has taken the 0-40º hydraulically offset 19 metres fly-jib and 42 tonnes of counterweight. Fully rigged, the crane can lift a maximum of 1.2 tonnes at a radius of 68 metres.

The LTM 1130-5.1 has a Liebherr made carrier engine developing 370kW, a 12 speed automatic gearbox, hydropneumatic suspension, disc brakes all round and active rear axle steering for extreme manoeuvrability. The crane engine, again, is made by Liebherr and produces 145kW. Electric load-sensing control provides simultaneous operation of four working motions via twin self-centering joysticks located in the operator's seat armrests. The electrical system employs the latest data bus techniques and Liebherr's own LICCON safe load indicator incorporates a diagnostic and testing system.
