Liebherr Excavators for Peter Duffy Limited

A major investment in earthmoving equipment by Peter Duffy Limited, the civil engineers, plant hirers and utility contractors based near Wakefield, has seen the recent delivery of two high-specification Liebherr "new generation" hydraulic excavators. The R 924B Litronic and R 934C Litronic models have joined the company's modern fleet and are proving their worth on the numerous projects Peter Duffy Limited is involved with in both the north of England and south Wales.

Both Duffy's new excavators have been supplied with heavy-duty, extra long undercarriage (HD-SL) fitted with 750mm wide trackpads, hydraulically adjustable booms, quick-hitch, hydraulic attachment swivel, automatic central lubrication system and refuelling pumps. Both machines are required for lifting as well as earthmoving and materials handling - especially with regard to pipeline and shaft work - and Liebherr has provided load diagram systems for lifting duties. The customer has also taken a large selection of backhoe buckets, from 0.85m³ to 1.20m³ capacities, 2400mm 0.85m³ ditchcleaning buckets with cutting edges and a ripper tooth for each excavator.

The operator's cab in both models are to the highest specifications, with full Litronic instrumentation, air suspended and heated seat with automatic lap safety belt, air conditioning, radio set and reinforced glazing. Additional working lights have been fitted front and rear, together with a flashing roof beacon.

Headquartered near Wakefield and with satellite depots, the company concentrates on the north of England for its civil engineering contracts, with specific expertise in the water, power and highways sectors, together with commercial construction projects. The company has its own training organisation and, in addition to the training and refresher programmes designed for their own personnel, assessments, industry standard and bespoke training schemes are also available to outside organisations.

The two new excavators joining the Peter Duffy fleet are the first Liebherr machines the company has bought. They are replacement machines and company director Neil Duffy commented that the build quality was the main reason for opting for Liebherr excavators. Both machines will undertake a wide variety of tasks but their prime duties are deep digging - such as shafts and pipeline trenching - and their excellent lifting capacities will be used for placing shaft linings and pipe sections. Both Liebherr excavators have been supplied with lifting hooks and equipped with Prolec Liftwatch 5 safe load indication systems.
