Number Plate Recognition for Weighbridge Data showcased at Hillhead 2007

Number Plate Recognition for Weighbridge Data showcased at Hillhead 2007
Avery Weigh-Tronix's new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology is designed to improve the speed, ease and accuracy of weighbridge data collection and will be shown to the quarrying industry for the first time at this year's Hillhead exhibition.  Visitors to stand number G9 can also view the company's new TouchDoc driver-operated weighbridge console, a compactor usage monitoring system, a steel Bridgmont weighbridge mounted on tall pillar stands and a variety of weighing hardware and software solutions.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition Technology
Developed in conjunction with ADT, the UK's leading provider of electronic fire and security solutions, the ANPR system is a closed circuit television (CCTV)-based application that uses specialist cameras to identify, log and monitor vehicle number plates.

When used as part of a weighbridge system, the vehicle will approach the ‘bridge to be weighed and the camera will record its registration number.  This is converted into an ASC II file and, once it is recognised by the system, the vehicle will be weighed and processed.  On exiting the site, the ANPR will identify the registration number again and the weighbridge will capture the loaded vehicle weight .

Comments Campbell Deas, general manager for transport at Avery Weigh-Tronix, "Developments such as ANPR technology automate data entry for simpler and faster operation, helping to minimise input errors and reduce vehicle queuing times."

TouchDoc
Also on show will be the company's touch screen driver operated control for weighbridges called TouchDoc. It has large touch screen keys and graphical characters, and a high definition TFT display for clarity.

The system can be customised to suit different needs and has a flexible easy to use interface.  A common requirement is for a multi-lingual interface enabling overseas drivers to use the system.

Compactor Usage Monitoring System
Waste and recycling companies attending the show will be interested in Avery Weigh-Tronix's compactor usage monitoring system designed for sites that house multiple businesses such as airports, shopping centres and office blocks.  It weighs and records each user's waste disposal and, as a Weights and Measures verified system, can charge each business appropriately.

Typically, a user accesses the compactor system with a swipe card.  The bin is loaded onto the automatic hoist, weighed, emptied and then reweighed to establish a net weight of the content emptied.  Other information captured by the system includes operator and company identity and the date and time of use.  The Windows-based software can record and display the information on a central PC and can link to other software for data analysis and invoicing.

ForkLift Truck Scale
Avery Weigh-Tronix's onboard forklift truck scale helps companies to validate the weight of a palletised load, quickly and accurately and without the driver needing to leave the safety of the cab.

The Avery Weigh-Tronix system transforms lift trucks into mobile scales that deliver trade approved weight verification of each pallet as it is picked up - so operators now lift, weigh, move and invoice loads within its existing process.

The system can guide the driver through the loading process to maximise capacity for outward-bound trailers.  Correct loading avoids health and safety hazards, fines and the expense of incident cleanups. For outward bound vehicles, printed proof of due diligence proves that the vehicle is fit to travel in the event of a roadside spot check.

Weighing Systems and Software
A range of weighing hardware solutions will be on display on stand number G9 including the BridgeMont mild steel weighbridge.  Available for surface or pit mounting, the weighbridge has simple foundations and a bolt-down design for fast installation.  It is four metres wide making it suitable for wider vehicles and for driver safety if they need to dismount from their vehicle.  The company can further extend the width of this weighbridge on demand and claim to offer the widest option in the UK.

Products from the Railweight range of train weighing systems are also exhibited and can offer high-speed, dynamic checkweighing up to 200 kilometres an hour.

A software package specifically aimed at users of multiple dynamic belt weighers will be on show.  It allows central monitoring and reporting of multiple material movements and flow rates from several locations.
