Liebherr Loaders Handle Scrap Metal for Easco

Liebherr Loaders Handle Scrap Metal for Easco
Easco is one of the largest metals recyclers in the UK, employing over 200 personnel and operating from a number of strategically located sites across the country. Spectacular growth over the past three years has resulted in an increase in the types of products and services the company provides - especially for export markets - and, in parallel, a need to expand and upgrade materials handling equipment to cope with the growing volumes. Easco has recently taken delivery of five specialist machines from Liebherr Great Britain, including an A 904C and two A 924B Industrial Rehandlers and two of the new generation L 5762plus2 wheeled loading shovels. Easco operates dockside facilities at King's Lynn on The Wash and Brightlingsea on the Essex coast, from where the company exports shredded steel, plate and structural, 4C bales and No 1 steel - all of which is loaded out in bulk. The wheeled loaders are employed at these two sites on stockpiling duties and also push materials to the industrial rehandlers which are loading the ships.

The Liebherr L 5762plus2 wheeled loading shovel is at the larger end of the 16 model range. Weighing in at just over 24 tonnes and with a tipping load of 17,200kg, this articulated and hydrostatically driven loader is ideal for scrap handling applications and is equipped with numerous features for the specific task. Powered by a Liebherr engine which develops 200kW, the engine induction system benefits from a cyclonic pre-filter which removes 95% of air-born dust particles, thereby prolonging air filter life and, importantly, enhancing engine protection. The machines for Easco have been fitted with extra-heavy-duty Michelin XMINED2 tyres with foam fill to eliminate punctures which can be a frequent hazard on scrap metal handling applications. The operator's cab is typically spacious, luxurious and functional with air conditioning, an air-suspended seat and an extra-heavy-duty screen guard.

For the arduous tasks of pushing and stockpiling fragmented metals, it is important to produce maximum traction while avoiding reduction in tyre life or compromising machine performance. The L 576 has automatic limited slip differentials which reduce wheel spin and possible tyre damage whilst enhancing traction. Additionally, the 4.5m³ capacity buckets fitted to the loaders have side wings attached to deflect frag away from the travel path, which further contributes to tyre longevity.

Easco's L 5762plus2 wheeled loaders have been equipped with a number of optional extras for maximum safety during operation and these include:- Reverse CCTV camera with colour in-cab monitor, reversing alarms, flashing beacons and convex side mirrors.
