McLanahan Corporation developed its reputation throughout North America by excellence and innovation in manufacturing rugged, reliable equipment for the mineral and construction materials industries.
This reputation has allowed McLanahan to grow its presence in the global marketplace, and now the company is proud to announce the launch of its European offices. As of 2012, McLanahan Corporation now provides customers in the European market with direct support from its office in Southeast England.
Established in 1835 as a foundry, McLanahan Corporation believes it is the oldest family-owned, operating foundry in the U.S. and was recently listed by Family Business Magazine as the 53rd oldest family business in the U.S. McLanahan's corporate office and primary base of operations remains at the original site in Hollidaysburg, Pa.
Currently in the fifth and sixth generations of family ownership and management, McLanahan offers a vast range of products and services that are expediently and efficiently handled by dedicated McLanahan personnel throughout the world.
Expanded Presence
In North America, McLanahan has operations in Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa and Tennessee. With a long-standing reputation for excellence as a springboard, McLanahan is dedicated to a stronger and expanded global presence through five targeted locations: North America, Europe, Western/South Africa, South America, and Australia and the Pacific Rim. The company's network of regional and international representatives continues to expand to provide services in China, India, and South and Central America.
The 2012 Hillhead Exhibition will see McLanahan officially launching its presence to U.K. and European customers. Although McLanahan has long maintained a significant European presence, the formation of McLanahan U.K. Limited to serve the European market has had immediate and positive impact since it opened in early 2012. European sales are now handled directly by the U.K. team from the newly acquired business premises in the Hampshire town of Alton.
Business in Australia and Asia-Pacific is handled by the office based in Newcastle, New South Wales. This branch of the company, which was formed in 2003, has grown markedly in just a few years and is now supplying major customers and contracts.
McLanahan is unique in today's world of business with manufacturing facilities and in-house engineers, machinists, fabricators and assembly personnel who oversee the complete design and manufacturing processes. These capabilities allow McLanahan Corporation to oversee most projects from start to finish and offer continual support to customers.
History of Innovation And Excellence
Around 1890, Samuel Calvin McLanahan, second generation, conceived an idea to wash clay from the rock in his Florida phosphate deposits. Inside a long box, he mounted wooden logs and attached cast iron paddles. On Jan. 27, 1891, he secured a patent for his new machine and called it the Log Washer.
McLanahan's work in mineral processing began when the patented Rotary Breaker was first fabricated by the McLanahan Stone Corporation in 1893. Shortly thereafter in 1894, Samuel Calvin McLanahan again expanded the company's product line when he invented the McLanahan Single Roll Crusher.
These ideas and innovations by Samuel Calvin McLanahan successfully changed the company from a foundry only operation into a manufacturer of mineral processing equipment. Thanks to the hundreds of dedicated employees who have continually updated and modernized the original designs over the years, McLanahan now offers a wide range of equipment and systems to process raw and synthetic materials.
To complement and expand the existing wet processing range (including Screw Classifiers, Dewaterers and Classifying Tanks), McLanahan purchased the entire U.S. Linatex equipment business in 2001. Through a process of continuous improvement, the company has developed an acquired range of Hydrocyclones, Hydrosizers, Flat Bottom Classifiers, Dewatering Screens and Pumps and has become the premier supplier of sand processing systems in the United States.
The company has continued to change and grow with many recent additions, especially in 2012. An environmental division that is responsible for the design and manufacturing of a range of Thickeners and the Recessed Plate Filter Press was formed this year. In January, McLanahan acquired Universal Engineering Corporation, a manufacturer of hard rock crushers and material handling equipment. This acquisition added a range of feeders and added Impact, Jaw and Hammermill Crushers.
McLanahan's ability to invent new, critical pieces of equipment and improve existing ones allows the corporation to remain a world leader in the development and manufacturing of mineral and aggregate processing equipment and systems.
