Lord Green Backs Taylor's Plans For Global Growth

The Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Green, visited the world's leading manufacturer of metal bins, Taylor, to officially launch its export programme, which has already seen the company secure orders in Africa, South East Asia and the Middle East.

The move is expected to increase Taylor's output by 20-30 per cent over the next 12 months and generate jobs throughout the Midlands, where the company has been based since it was formed 50 years ago.

Visiting Taylor's 20-acre site at Oak Park, the former Chairman of HSBC Holdings Lord Green commented: "Taylor is an excellent example of a longstanding UK manufacturer that has committed to investing in a buoyant overseas market. Developing an international presence provides a route to growth and enables UK companies to unlock their potential. We're delighted to support a company with such a rich manufacturing history and applaud Taylor for creating jobs within the region."

Taylor's decision to launch its international export programme follows a £1m investment in new product development and growing international demand for waste management solutions that address increasing urbanisation.

David Williams, Taylor's CEO, added: "With fifty years as a successful UK manufacturer under our belts it's time to develop an international presence and realise our aspirations for global growth. Taylor is a UK manufacturing success story with an internationally relevant product so the logical progression is to build on our strength, position the business as a global player and take our products out to a wider audience."

Taylor's export programme forms one of many initiatives planned for 2012 following its acquisition by environmental investors, Sullivan Street.

Peter Selkirk, Taylor's Chairman, concluded: "Our export strategy has been in development for the last five years so it's fantastic that all our hard work is starting to come to fruition and that we're laying the foundations for another successful fifty years."
