GAME Engineering build third extrusion line for leading pet food supplier

Wagg Foods Limited has celebrated the official opening of their recently completed factory extension housing their third dry pet food extrusion plant.

Designed and built by Process Engineering Contractor GAME Engineering Limited, this third Extrusion plant marks the latest phase of works with Wagg Foods which goes back eight years to the installation to the first Extruder.

This recently commissioned extension represents a significant investment reflecting a confidence by Wagg in both the future of the Pet Food business in both the UK and abroad and also confidence in their long term partner GAME Engineering. GAME have worked with Wagg over the years to create a state of the art production mill, starting in 2002, from a Green field site to the impressive facility which it is today.

In this latest phase of development all aspects of the Process have been upgraded along with the installation of the latest Andritz Extrusion Technology. GAME was appointed as design team leaders, working with the client's own Civil and Structural Consultants and Engineers to procure the new Factory building.

In order to allow the factory to work seven days per week a new grain storage facility has been created alongside and integrated into the existing raw materials facilities. A second lorry tip and intake system, with 750 Tonne of Grain storage capacity has been installed. These silos are filled during the day and the contents used at night and a weekends to allow continuous production in the Blending plant.

To increase the Blending plant capacity without the need to install additional blending bins and Weighers, the existing Weighers have been replaced with a double deck design incorporating Grid Slides between Weighing and static sections. This ingenious design allows batches to be processed more quickly and thus increasing the total capacity of the existing Blending plant.

The centrepiece of the new Extrusion plant is the Andritz Ex950 Extruder, which has been installed along with other process machinery including a Gas powered horizontal dryer, a three tier Vacuum coating plant and Cooling/Finished product screening facilities.

With over 20 years experience in the materials processing and handling industry, GAME has acquired a wealth of knowledge and experience in numerous sectors, enabling strong customer relationships to be formed.

After manufacture the Extruded feed is stored in a new 500 Tonne storage and blending facility before being delivered to the packing hall where the products are packed into bags and boxes ranging from 375gm to 17 kg.

Along with the main items of production plant, many ancillary parts have also been supplied and installed by GAME. A new Tank farm comprising 40 Te stainless steel fats storage tanks deliver to numerous liquid pumps which are installed in specifically designed pump house facility. The pumps deliver liquid Fats and Oils to all three of the Extruder plants.

A new steam boiler has also been installed. This is fitted with a dual fuel burner which allows the unit to operate burning Kerosene but with the added benefit that it can also be fuelled in the future by natural Gas.

In order to power the new Extrusion facilities GAME used electrical engineering contractors who supplied the new electrical equipment including a bespoke Motor Control Centre and PLC installation. Control is provided byan extension of the existing system which is integrated with the Andritz control systems.
