Erith Announces Key Appointment

2010 World Demolition Contractor of the Year Erith Group has announced the appointment of Paul Nurton as Pre-construction Director.

Kent-based Erith Group has underlined its commitment to its clients in the demolition, infrastructure and basement construction sectors with the appointment of the former John Doyle Construction managing director Paul Nurton. Nurton brings with him more than 35-years industry experience and is seen as a key addition to the Erith team and, in particular, to the newly formed London Division.

“Basement construction is a growth business, particularly in London. With my estimating and business growth experience coupled with the existing skills of Erith’s estimating, in house logistics and temporary works teams, we are able to offer our clients a one-stop shop that encompasses all work elements from demolition to reconstruction to ground floor level,” Nurton explains. “During my time with John Doyle Construction, I had the opportunity to work alongside Erith Group on a number of projects dating back to 1984 and I got to know the company and its people extremely well. I like the way they work, and they have always had a very strong reputation within the industry.”

Erith Group’s Managing Director David Darsey is similarly enthusiastic about the new appointment. “Erith possesses the skills to provide clients with basement construction and groundworks following the demolition process but this is very much a people business,” Darsey says.“The appointment of Paul Nurton demonstrates our commitment to that sector of the business. He is well-known and respected throughout the construction industry and brings with him a wealth of experience and contacts that will be vital for the growth of the business in general and our new London office in particular.   And the fact that we have attracted someone of Paul’s experience and background is testament to the ambition of Erith Group as a whole.”

Darsey is also excited about the Pre-Construction service and in house temporary works business the group set up last year, with its first year turnover doubling expectations.   Swanton Consulting now employs ten engineers, another signal of the group’s long term commitment to its clients.

“The qualities that Paul brings to team can only improve our capability in providing a single point delivery team for basements,” concludes Swanton Consulting’s Tim Lohmann.“With his depth of experience in basement construction allied with our existing strengths we believe that we are well placed to deliver innovative and efficient solutions to the challenges presented by complex substructures in an urban environment.”
