Exciting and innovative new ways of reusing carpet materials and offcuts will be showcased by Carpet Recycling
Three popular seminar sessions will focus on sustainable practices supported by CRUK, the industry-backed association for waste carpet reuse and recycling, in its third appearance at the Excel show.
Starting at 11am, the seminars will feature senior industry figures and leading flooring manufacturers sharing their knowledge on the latest research and development into advanced recycling and reprocessing techniques for all types of synthetic and wool carpets.
Discussion will also centre on how carpet materials can be used as a valuable new resource for cost-effective and eco-friendly design concepts, including construction products. The sessions will cover:
- Innovative construction products from carpet fibres
- Design for recycling and designing products with recycled content
- Carpet tile reuse and recycling
“Tremendous opportunities for recovering and recycling carpet materials are emerging all the time. For example, recovered carpet fibres can be used in wood replacement products and advertising hoardings or protective screens for building sites,” says Jane Gardner of resource recovery specialists Axion Consulting, which manages CRUK.
“Identifying new ways of diverting this bulky waste stream from landfill and recovering it for reuse is a primary focus for us as we move towards our target of 25% carpet waste diversion from landfill by 2015,” she adds.
