CEW Adds Crusher to Expanding Recycling Plant

CEW Adds Crusher to Expanding Recycling Plant
CEW Recycling Group operates what is believed to be the largest under cover recycling centre in the North West of England and has an impressive throughput of over 75,000 tonnes a year. Based in St. Helens, Merseyside, CEW has a three-acres facility for the processing of waste materials which is all under one roof. This state-of-the-art recycling operation collects and receives construction waste and C&D debris, packaging, domestic and industrial/commercial waste from the region, with numerous contracts from major construction and civil engineering groups, local authorities and commercial concerns. The company has made considerable investments in modern, efficient recycling and reclamation equipment during the past year or so and, as part of a planned and continued expansion of their facilities and equipment to recycle increasing volumes, CEW has recently purchased a new TEREX Pegson Metrotrak HA crushing plant from distributors Blue Machinery Central.

CEW reclaims in excess of 90% from the incoming raw waste materials, producing a significant output of quality recycled products and, perhaps of equal importance, significantly reducing costly waste-to-landfill volumes. The reclaimed end-products include shredded wood waste, baled packaging board for pulping, secondary aggregates, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics and fines - the latter being used predominantly for landfill cover. CEW is also producing 6F2, pipe bedding and, increasingly, high quality gritsand for flagging and paviours. The company is also working with discerning architects who are increasingly looking to recycle and reuse "same site" demolition debris, in order to make the best possible use of secondary aggregates and other recyclables on brownfield developments.

CEW Recycling Group Limited has been in existence for over 7 years and is a privately owned organisation. The company's vehicle fleet consists of over 400 skips, roll-on-off trucks and hook lorries. Industrial, construction and civil engineering and local authority contracts form the core business and collections of the raw waste materials are made from waste transfer stations and drop off points throughout the region. The company moved to their current premises in November 2004 and, in addition to customising the building to suit their specific requirements, the company also paid particular attention to environmental issues by installing stringent emission controls and dust suppression. In terms of screening and shredding equipment for the recycling centre, CEW chiefly turned to Blue Machinery as their main provider. Over the past couple of years, CEW has purchased two Powerscreen Chieftain 1400 "flat-bed" screening plants, a Powerscreen Trommel 615 drum screener and a Doppstadt AK-230 high-speed shredder from Blue Machinery. A new static giant trommel has also been added to the facilities, with density separators and a four-bay picking station forming the final part of the separation process. The latest investment in a Metrotrak HA crushing plant follows on from Blue Machinery's recent appointment as a TEREX Pegson distributor, continuing the close working relationship between the two organisations that goes back to CEW's inception. The new Metrotrak HA is the site's primary crusher, producing crushed secondary aggregates from oversized material for further processing by trommels and flat-bed screeners.

The Metrotrak HA mobile jaw crushing plant features hydraulic adjustment of the "M" Series single toggle jaw, which uses two tapered cross beams, obviating the need for shims and drawback rod for adjustment (40mm to 100mm); feed opening is 900mm X 600mm. Caterpillar powered (131kW/175HP) and equipped with a high efficiency HFO self-adjusting clutch with electro-hydraulic operation, the Metrotrak HA is capable of an ouput of up to 175 tonnes per hour, depending on setting and material feed.

The large hydraulically folding feed hopper has a generous 3.6m³ capacity and is constructed from reinforced Hardox wear-resistant plate. The vibrating grizzly feeder has a heavy-duty mechanical vibrating unit with twin cast eccentric shafts. Finger bars and underscreen allow grizzly fines to be directed on to the main product or side conveyor by fitting a blanking mat or wire meshes with a choice of apertures. Variable speed control allows smooth and continuous materials feed.  The integral product conveyor is 800mm wide with a discharge height of 2.9 metres and CEW's machine has an overband magnet for extraction of ferrous metals which are reclaimed and recycled. The heavy-duty crawler track undercarriage, fully skirted conveyor and remote control ensure that the plant can be set up very quickly and easily moved on site if required. Dust suppression sprays are fitted as standard.
