CDE Ireland, the bespoke designer and manufacturer of sand washing equipment, has increased its success in the Middle East by securing a second contract for £5.6 million to develop the world’s largest sand-washing system.
The company, which is based in Northern Ireland, is to supply the processing system to a client for use on infrastructure projects in the Middle East. The unique and highly innovative machine will process around 1,200 tonnes of sand per hour and is the latest in a series of substantial export contracts secured by CDE Ireland in the Arabian Gulf, India and Pakistan.
CDE will design and manufacture the large scale processing plant to specifications agreed in close consultation with the client’s engineering team. Given the company’s considerable experience of delivering large-scale projects CDE will also prepare the concrete and civil design as part of the overall scope.
Tony Convery, CDE Ireland’s managing director, announcing the contract, said: "Our business strategy is built on offering clients a bespoke, high quality manufacturing solution for washing and screening operations. The client had a specific requirement for a machine capable of processing high volumes of washed sand using a minimum of fresh water as the machine will be used in the Arabian desert where temperatures can reach an astounding 55 degrees Celsius. We had proposed one of our most sophisticated water recycling systems and this design swung the procurement panel in our favour.
"Competition for this valuable project came from all over the world and it is a credit to our experienced team to win this contract on the world stage."
This news comes quickly after the company’s recent acquisition of their Indian distributor, Torsa Machines, with the formation of CDE Asia Limited.
Commenting on the acquisition, Mr Convery said: "Our commitment to export has driven us to the growing market in the Middle East and South Asia. Torsa has a strong engineering tradition particularly in crushing and has excellent market contacts. We offered them the opportunity to replicate the successful business model we currently have in the UK and Europe. After months of negotiations the new company, CDE Asia Limited, was formed last week"
CDE views the 1 billion population market in India as one ideally suited to its products and hopes to develop its technology further in the Cookstown facility.
Machines designed and built in Cookstown are currently in India being commissioned to process waste minerals into a valuable commodity.
"This new contract and others that we have secured are evidence of the substantial market opportunity that exists in these dynamic markets for our innovative washing technologies, particularly in the sand and mineral processing industries," he added.
"Alongside this success in the Middle East and India, our focus on the European market remains strong with plans already afoot to extend the existing Cookstown facilities. We know that our unique technologies and approach to service are highly valued by our customers and we will continue to invest heavily in research and development so that we can remain a driving force for innovation in Ireland and the UK."
CDE will exhibit its range of equipment at the Conmex Construction Industry Show in Sharjah, UAE later in November.
