Global Expansion for Miller Buckets and Couplers Range.

One of the North East’s most successful manufacturing companies is restructuring in preparation for global expansion over the next decade.

Miller UK is already a world leader in the design and manufacture of attachments for earth moving equipment with factories in Cramlington and China.

With the launch this year of a range of new products and growth into new markets in the Pacific Rim, Australasia and Europe, managing director Keith Miller is moving to the role of company chairman and a new managing director has been appointed.

John Lines has joined from Volvo Construction Equipment where he was sales and marketing director.

Keith said: "We have come a very long way in the last 28 years but in reality we have only scratched the surface of what is going to be possible in the global construction market over the next five-ten years.

"Last year we manufactured more than 23,000 units with a team that has grown to 400 in China and 250 in Northumberland.

"For the company to be a true world player it needs someone to be able to step back and examine where we are going in the medium-long term, especially in emerging markets as well as in the established markets like Japan that are still not major users of coupler technology. There is truly massive market potential which we can only maximise by stepping back and looking at the big picture."

New MD John brings experience of the construction equipment industry and considerable knowledge of running a successful major capital sales organisation.

He added: "During my time at Volvo I gained first hand knowledge of Miller products as one of their customers. I am proud to have been given the opportunity to become the first non-family managing director of Miller UK and I am looking forward immensely to this new challenge and to becoming part of the team."

Since being established in Newcastle by former welder Keith and his brother Gary and sister Jacqui, who are directors in the business, Miller UK has built a worldwide reputation for buckets and couplers for large earthmoving machines.

Its customers include global companies like CAT, Volvo, Hitachi, JCB, Case and Komatsu.

The Mini range, launched earlier this year, has allowed the company to break into the mini excavator market which offers considerable opportunities for future growth.
